I am an employee of Fangda Partners and am making this request as part of my employment. I have disclosed my paid relationship on my user page. I respectfully request that an uninvolved editor review the following proposed update to the article.
The current article contains outdated information concerning the firm’s offices, lawyer headcount and practices, as well as unsupported evaluative statements. The proposed draft updates the factual information, adds supporting sources and removes the unsupported descriptions.

Partly done Hi 9506a, thank you for the proposed edit. Would you be able to break down the specific sections with rationale by section? The biggest change I see in your proposal is the addition of a "market recognition" section. I would encourage you to review WP:PROMO, as much if not all of that section is promotional. Some of the other proposed additions also read promotional, such as I added the opening of the Singapore office, but language like "The Singapore office was established to support clients conducting cross-border business and investment involving China, Southeast Asia and other international markets." reads promotional. I made other changes to the introduction, but with some changes in refs and other adaptations. In addition, I recommend that you use citation markup and {{cite news}} or other citation templates to format your references. Best, SpencerT•C 06:08, 12 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Spencer,
- Thank you very much for the helpful feedback and for implementing part of the proposed update. I have reviewed WP:PROMO and agree that it would be better to narrow the request and separate the rationale for each proposed change.
- To make the remaining requests easier to review, I would suggest the following section-by-section approach:
- 1. Lead
- Rationale:
- The purpose of the proposed changes to the lead is primarily to update factual information that is currently outdated, in particular the number of lawyers and offices, and to reflect that the firm advises on both PRC and Hong Kong law.
- I am happy to omit the phrase “not as an alliance of lawyers in different locations” if the contrast is considered unnecessary or promotional.
- The core factual information I am seeking to update is therefore:
- “Fangda Partners is a full-service law firm founded in 1993. The firm advises on PRC and Hong Kong law and has approximately 800 lawyers across seven offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore.”
- 2. Red Circle description
- Rationale:
- This is intended to provide independent third-party context regarding how the firm has been characterised in the legal market, rather than as a promotional claim by the firm itself.
- The description is supported by independent legal-industry publications including The Lawyer, Asian Legal Business and IFLR.
- Proposed wording:
- “Legal-industry publications have described Fangda Partners as one of China’s ‘Red Circle’ law firms, an informal term used in the legal market to refer to a group of prominent Chinese commercial law firms.”
- I am also happy for this wording to be shortened or adapted as appropriate.
- 3. History
- Rationale:
- The main purpose is simply to update the article to reflect the establishment of the Singapore office in 2024.
- I agree that the sentence describing the purpose of the Singapore office (“to support clients conducting cross-border business…”) is unnecessary and can be removed.
- The proposed factual addition would therefore simply be:
- “In 2024, Fangda opened an office in Singapore, its first office outside China.”
- 4. Practices
- Rationale:
- The existing article already contains a “Main practice areas” section, but the list is outdated and incomplete. The proposed change is intended only to bring the existing list up to date, rather than to add descriptions or promotional information about individual practices.
- The current practice areas listed by the firm are:
- Antitrust/Competition
- Asset-Backed Securities
- Banking & Finance
- Capital Markets
- Compliance & Government Regulatory, including Government Enforcement, Anti-Corruption, Data Protection, Customs and Trade Compliance
- Dispute Resolution
- Energy & Infrastructure
- Financial Industry
- General Industries
- Insolvency & Restructuring
- Intellectual Property
- Investment Funds
- Investment Management
- Labor & Employment
- Life Sciences & Healthcare
- M&A
- Private Equity
- Private Wealth Management
- Real Estate & Construction
- Tax
- Technology, Media & Telecommunications
- Japan Practice
- I do not propose adding separate descriptions of these practices.
- 5. Market recognition
- Thank you for pointing this out. Having reviewed WP:PROMO, I agree that the proposed “Market recognition” section is unnecessary and I withdraw this part of the request.
- 6. Citations
- Thank you also for the guidance on citation formatting. I will use inline citation markup and the appropriate
{{cite news}}: Empty citation (help) /{{cite web}}: Empty citation (help) templates for the remaining proposed changes. - I hope this narrower section-by-section approach is easier to review. I am very happy for the wording to be adapted further where needed to comply with Wikipedia’s style and neutrality requirements.
- Thank you again for your help.

- I think I addressed all of the above in my changes, post here if there's anything outstanding. Best, SpencerT•C 14:41, 12 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, Spencer. The changes look good and I appreciate your help.
- There is just one factual update that appears to remain outstanding: the “Main practice areas” section still reflects the older list. As this section already exists in the article, would it be possible to update it to reflect the firm’s current practice and sector groups?
- The current list is:
- Antitrust/Competition
- Asset-Backed Securities
- Banking & Finance
- Capital Markets
- Compliance & Government Regulatory, including Government Enforcement, Anti-Corruption, Data Protection, Customs and Trade Compliance
- Dispute Resolution
- Energy & Infrastructure
- Financial Industry
- General Industries
- Insolvency & Restructuring
- Intellectual Property
- Investment Funds
- Investment Management
- Labor & Employment
- Life Sciences & Healthcare
- M&A
- Private Equity
- Private Wealth Management
- Real Estate & Construction
- Tax
- Technology, Media & Telecommunications
- Japan Practice
- Source:
- The infobox also still lists “General practice” under “Major practice areas”; if appropriate, this could be updated to “Full-service commercial law”.
- Other than these points, I believe the substantive updates have been addressed. Thank you again for your assistance. 9506a (talk) 14:58, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

Fangda → Fangda Partners – “Fangda Partners” is the firm’s complete and official English name and is the name consistently used by independent legal-industry sources, including Chambers and Partners, The Lawyer, Asian Legal Business and IFLR. The current title “Fangda” is less precise and may be confused with unrelated organisations using the Fangda name. “Fangda Partners” more clearly and accurately identifies the subject of the article. 9506a (talk) 08:37, 4 August 2026 (UTC) — Relisting.
