The result of the move request was: not moved per Andrewa - once a more cohesive plan is put together another RM can be opened DrStrauss talk 21:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship → Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany – German foundation chose a new English translation as stated also in official documents now: https://www.bundesstiftung-aufarbeitung.de/uploads/2017-pdf/Imageflyer_Stiftung_englisch_ONLINE.pdf BundesstiftungAufarbeitung (talk) 07:54, 24 July 2017 (UTC)--Relisting. —usernamekiran(talk) 20:16, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. I initially relisted this and perhaps it should be relisted, see discussion, but now note that nom is blocked for unsuitable username and probably has an undisclosed COI, and that the current name is far more common than the proposed. [1] [2] Note also that the rationale is in terms of the official name, cites only a primary source, and appears to have no basis in terms of article title policy. Andrewa (talk) 16:18, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
- Comment. The proposed name does seem to be in use, though it isn't as common in English sources. I don't see any indication of a translation change.[3][4][5]--Cúchullain t/c 14:07, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- Comment: The phrase new English translation is IMO likely to reflect that English is not nom's native language, and should not be taken literally. Andrewa (talk) 23:53, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Discussion
editNote two undiscussed moves;
- 20:40, 13 July 2008 Matthead (talk | contribs | block) m . . (34 bytes) (0) . . (moved Talk:Foundation for the Reconciliation of the SED Dictatorship to Talk:Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur: correct name)
- 06:33, 24 October 2015 Nick Mitchell 98 (talk | contribs | block) m . . (49 bytes) (0) . . (Nick Mitchell 98 moved page Talk:Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur to Talk:Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship: Moving to English title as article is on the English Wikipedia)
Both of these contributors are still active, would either wish to !vote, comment or propose an alternative name? Andrewa (talk) 16:13, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
- In regards to my page move in 2015, I made the WP:BOLD decision to move the page without a page move. This decision was based on WP:EN: "The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject which is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources". – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 23:34, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, Nick Mitchell 98, your bold move was IMO both proper and constructive, and I did not wish to imply otherwise.
- As it's gone to RM, it would be good for you to now contribute any evidence you have readily to hand (I realise it's a while ago now). Andrewa (talk) 23:47, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Recent changes
editIt's possible that recent sources have adopted the new name and should be preferred, and Cuchullain's searches suggest this may be the case, but my opinion is still that this RM is at least premature. Happy for it to be relisted to allow this possibility to be further investigated if anyone wishes to do so. Andrewa (talk) 00:03, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- Some of the results I gave for the proposed name date to 2014, and there are hits for the current name well after that. As such it's not clear if there has in fact even been a change in the preferred translation, or if there are just two that are in use (in which case the current title is more common).--Cúchullain t/c 16:00, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
