this article is premature
please don't proceed with it soibangla (talk) 00:52, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
I am redirecting it to the Smith article soibangla (talk) 00:57, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
fine, do what you want then, smhsoibangla (talk) 01:10, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- I disagree. I think we should rename the article United States v. Trump GreenFrogsGoRibbit (talk) 01:11, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- So apparently MOS:LEGAL#Cases says that
Criminal trials that are notable for the people or crimes involved, not for the legal precedent they set, should be titled "Trial of (defendant)" or another commonly recognizable name.
We had this discussion on the New York prosecution at Talk:Prosecution of Donald Trump in New York#Requested move 9 April 2023. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:20, 9 June 2023 (UTC)- it's not a trial yet, and may never be, we don't know yet soibangla (talk) 01:22, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, we had that discussion over at the New York article too: Talk:Prosecution of Donald Trump in New York#Requested move 2 April 2023. That's why it's called "Prosecution of ...", not "Trial of ...". Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:23, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hmm nice invocation. Okay, let's keep the title of the article as is! GreenFrogsGoRibbit (talk) 01:26, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

- either that or indictment, not prosecution soibangla (talk)
- This article is quickly going to cover not only the indictment, but also the arraignment and pre-trial proceedings. Once the arraignment happens on Tuesday and is covered in this article, an "Indictment of ..." title will become incorrect. Better to keep it correct from the beginning. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:25, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- we can not say at this time whatever future events may or may not occur. all we know is that it's an indictment. soibangla (talk) 01:32, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Soibangla: Please see MOS:LEGAL#Cases and Talk:Prosecution of Donald Trump in New York#Requested move 9 April 2023 as to why the article title shouldn't be the case citation name. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:38, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- if Trump were to die tonight, would he be prosecuted? no, but the indictment would survive. that's where we are right now, not tomorrow. I am no way suggesting here that I think Trump should die. soibangla (talk) 01:43, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- If something surprising happens, we'll react to it. Meanwhile the existing title works fine. VQuakr (talk) 03:28, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

- So apparently MOS:LEGAL#Cases says that
- There is no way this article does not meet notability guidelines. And if the facts as described in the indictment are accurate, Trump is guilty. Full stop. Frankly, it’s frustrating that there are so many AFD discussions over clearly relevant and notable articles. Juneau Mike (talk) 05:38, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
