Is this person's name "Filipe", as in the title, or "Felipe", as in the first sentence? 24.36.74.15 (talk) 17:40, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are two

quite different accounts of Espinosa's life here. I tend to believe (as in "faith") that he was a local New Mexican, but am going to try and see if I can find out more about this intriguing story. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 21:48, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

After finding [1] this I've decided to move the "Born in Vera Cruz" stuff to the bottom of the article and keep and an alternate reality. Carptrash (talk) 23:00, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I just cut this out

and moved it here.

The story being told is that Felipe and his brother were upset about their home being bombed, their sister being snubbed by an Angelo. The sad truth is Felipe Espinosa and his brother Bibiana Espinosa came home from being on the range and found their wives had been raped, tortured, and slashed to death. The women had had their breasts sliced off. One of the women was not dead yet and was able to tell who the attackers were. Thus began the rage of the Espinosa brothers. As to the letter Felipe supposedly sent to the Governor, Felipe, like a lot of the Hispanics of the time was illiterate and couldn't have sent a letter to anyone with out a second party writing it.

When Filipe's brother Vivian was killed parts of Filipe's (or Vivian's) diary was recovered, suggesting strongly that he could read and write. The rest of this sounds like the sort of stuff that needs to be footnoted. Carptrash (talk) 23:22, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Also, Vivian (aka Bibian or Bibiana - it is unusual for a Spanish male name to end in an "a') was 14 years old when all this happened, so it is unlikely that his wife raped, etc. Carptrash (talk) 23:28, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
When Filipe was killed he was found with some writings and a letter to his wife [2], so it really appears that he was literate. Hwever he was NOT a Mexican, as of 1948 or so he was an American, so the categories including him as a Mexican killer will have to go. Carptrash (talk) 23:37, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merge to new article for "Espanosa brothers killing spree"?

edit

This is an odd biography. Felipe and Vivian seem notable for the same event so why just an article for him? And they are both notable (notorious actually) for the same thing: their killing spree. I think this subject is best covered by an article about their crimes with redirects from the individuals to that article. I don't know if "Espanosa brothers killing spree" is the best title but something in that spirit. Jason Quinn (talk) 16:52, 14 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
