Apart from the Fender Dynamic Vibrato bridge, the rest of it was the same as a Duo-Sonic; simply put, the Mustang was a budget model with a tremolo arm.

Not so. The existing Duo-Sonic and the Musicmaster were both redesigned in 1964, a few months after the release of the Mustang, adopting its body shape. The Mustang itself was an in-between model, especially the 24" scale version; The budget trem model was the Fender Bronco, which also adopted the Mustang shape but had an even cheaper trem arm, with no redeeming features other than rarity AFAIK. "Impractical" POV on trem arm

Hmmmm... current article reads:

Many players also prefer the Duo-Sonic II to the Mustang because it lacks the impractical and difficult to maintain tremolo bridge.

But later (I'm glad to see) the comments about some notable players preferring the tremolo arm above all other designs is still there. I think impractical is rather POV. I'll fix it sometime if nobody else does first. Andrewa 03:34, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Related models

So... if this is the Mustang article, why are people talking about the Musicmaster and Duo Sonic? Someone ought to redo this page entirely... anyone opposed to me attempting that? Danglybanger

Fender Musicmaster and Fender Duosonic both already have their own articles, as does the Fender Bronco and the corresponding bass models. IMO it's good to have an overview of the history of these related models somewhere, and as the Mustang is the most famous of them, it makes sense to have this writeup in this article.

But I'm certainly not opposed to your having a go at rewriting the article. Interested to see how you get on. Andrewa 14:37, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Kurt Cobain

i dont know if the linking of kurt cobain to the mustang guitar is pertinent, he played a custom combo of a jaguar guitar and mustang guitar which has been refered to as a "jag-stang"

Yeah, but they didn't make one until 1994. Meaning for 99% of his career it didn't exist. He grew up playing a Mustang, it was his favorite guitar until it was destroyed in a flood Mujarimojo 05:34, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

1. He primarily used modified Fender Mustangs. A single coil pickup in the neck position and humbucker in the bridge position also modified the bridge to a Gibson style Gotoh Bridge.

2. He played Jaguars for Nirvana's Nevermind tour in Europe because it was easier to find/replace cheap left-handed Jaguars than Mustangs before they hit it big.

3. He played the "Jag-stang" only a few times on the in-utero tour as he felt it was unfinished.

4. They made Fender Mustangs in the US from 1964-1982. He played Mustangs mostly from this era and a few of the Japanese reissues.

There is a long history of removing it by many many editors, which would make the removal a consensus. However, if you can add a citation from a website that passes the requirements of WP:RS (the Kurt's equipment site is an amateur fansite and fails that policy) it can easily be added back in. All the guitar model pages are prone to fanboy listcrufting. No new additions on any guitar pages unless their is verification. Trivia

Kurt Cobain stated that the Fender Mustang was his favorite guitar, and that he bought his first Mustang for only $20, where as now they can be purchased for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
That's what is said in his book, but I wonder if it's true. Finding a mustang for 20 dollars, even at the times, is rare. But finding, by coincidence, a left-handed pre-cbs fender mustang sold 20 dollars is very unlikely. user14 20:24 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Who is it that keeps going through articles on intruments that appear in the japanese series 'K-ON!', and attributing the cast of that anime or their namesakes from The Pillows as "notable players of this instrument"? David Byrne

Agreed. Other than this wiki page - and all the other web pages that use it as a 'reliable source' - I have never found a shred of evidence that Byrne ever used a Mustang. And I myself am a 20 year fan of Talking Heads and a 15 year player of Mustangs myself. Byrne simply didn't own a Mustang. It was a Duo-Sonic.220.240.153.58 (talk) 18:30, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Ok, David Byrne now has a source as a notable Mustang user - a link to a video posted by Fender on their website that shows Byrne playing a... wait for it... DUO-SONIC. David Byrne's guitar was a Duo-Sonic, NOT A MUSTANG! Can we please attempt to stabilize the "Notable users" Section?

It seems this particular section changes every single day, which is very annoying, because it means a user can come to this page on monday, and another on friday, and have completely different readings.

Competition Mustang Colors (Burgundy)

Hi I want to propose a change, in the model section it mentions the 3 competition mustang colors and says red is also known as burgundy but this is incorrect. The blue color was actually called burgundy.
