editWhy delete this page? Fergie Olver was a long-time Canadian TV personality, hosting a game show and Toronto Blue Jays baseball broadcasts among other things.
- I agree. People should know about this.
- A proper article could go some way to exonerating this man. Ryan4314 (talk) 14:38, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Exonerate a pedophilic creep? Why would wiki choose NOT to include this sick history? They will debunk things that are actually true and delete things that are true, yet allow questionable sources to edit things that are not true into the system. There’s an agenda at Wikipedia. Wolfegang5050 (talk) 01:22, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- COMPLETELY AGREE. And the fact there is a limited amount of people that do the majority of the edits and control them while insisting it’s a open ‚honest‘ pedia is troubling. I posted on greta thunberg wiki about her hallucinating c02 coming from cars and buildings - INFORMATION ABOUT GRETA PROVIDED AND PUBLISHED IN HER MOTHERS OWN BOOK - and the data was wiped near instantly and i received a three week ‚posting ban.‘ My edits to that point had been spelling corrections. I had contributed money to wiki before and told them so, and that i wasn’t anymore due to this intentional control snd manipulation/deletion of personal data, creating a inaccurate pedia.
- Instant unban - THEY WANT THEIR MONEY. I haven’t contributed a penny since and i NEVER will again due to their censorship and hiding of fact they don’t even like. Then i find a article online that followed the edits of wiki and found around six people do the majority of the edits and what they want stays, ‚democracy‘ and rules be damned.
- I don‘t trust wikipedia anymore, it’s run in my opinion by money grubbers with bias and agenda, and i rarely use now, whereas i used to use it all the time. Wiki isn’t trustworthy, and they hide fact if it doesn’t suit the ‚facts‘ they want to push, and the agenda du jour. 2001:569:BDEB:4700:E9CB:852E:F9F4:7DB3 (talk) 00:49, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

editHere is a video showing extremely inappropriate behavior. This is a compilation.

I've chopped this out - the sources, even the mainstream ones, seem to be opinion blog type ones. The language and implications in the section were over the line in my opinion. We're not a tabloid, this kind of thing doesn't fit our remit. Under WP:BLP we have to be extremely careful when writing about real people - our actions have real world consequences. Exxolon (talk) 12:31, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed the content says more about the progression of society and of utube and press reporting that it says anything about him. There is also a thread at BLPN here, if anyone wants to make a case to include the content, thanks Off2riorob (talk) 18:14, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Come on, you cant just brush this over - first he kissed the girls - the outrage is a fact - plus not only blogs reported about this look ! - http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/04/15/for-all-you-fergie-oliver-fans-across-the-world/ and i did not even seach for a minute. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.112.106.126 (talk) 10:08, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- And yet there has been no addition, and i bet you there won’t be. Remember, fact doesn’t matter here, no matter how much they want to insist otherwise. Articles like this one, ignoring consent of a child, ignoring their no and the assault upon them ON AIR, BROADCAST for ALL to see, a ting like it didn’t happen and didn’t exist, show their agenda and reveal their lie that they are a ‚honest‘ and impartial wiki.
- i lived during that time, was raped and sexually assaulted from early childhood and went through consent not being respected just like these children. Their experience should be respected and known, not covered up because it wasn’t talked about widely in the media (it was just shown on television, RECORDED, for all to see by a molester confident in his ability to harm children in front of others and get away with it, and that isn’t good enough ‚source‘ for wiki. Somehow his own videos, broadcast ON CANADIAN TELEVISION, don’t make the cut. When it comes to truth, wiki fails. In this article they hide the actions of a molester. Why? Because his kid works for the weather network? Or do they not want to upset their handlers, those that run wiki as a propaganda machine?) 173.180.221.112 (talk) 01:46, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
from an editor at New York magazine's website
edithttp://www.vulture.com/2010/04/watch_an_unbearably_creepy_mon.html
"Watch an Unbearably Creepy Montage of a Canadian Game-Show Host’s Most Lecherous Moments This is a montage of horribleness from Just Like Mom, an old Canadian kids' show (!?) co-hosted by the nightmarishly pervy Fergie Oliver, who should obviously go to jail immediately and makes Bob Barker look like a saint in comparison. It is the most uncomfortable thing we've ever seen." By Edith Zimmerman -- and Edith Zimmerman is no mere blogger, when she wrote this she was employed by New York magazine as a web editor.
"Edith is the founding editor of The Hairpin and a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine. She's also written for GQ, Elle, The Awl, and This American Life. She grew up in Cambridge, MA, and lives in Brooklyn." [1]
This is pretty notable recognition of Olver's perviness, from a reputable, reliable source.
This video has brought more notoriety to Olver than any accomplishment in his career, its omission from his article is glaring & inexcusable. Bustter (talk) 06:22, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Some blogger's opinion (oh, sorry, she wrote for the New Yorker, that changes everything) from 2010 is hardly compelling evidence that this is anything more than a brief and cruel meme. You've been an editor since 2006, surely you know about WP:UNDUE and WP:BLP. Zimmerman states he should go to jail -- you seriously think this is credible journalism to go into an article on a living person? freshacconci talk to me 12:52, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- What was said above, "Under WP:BLP we have to be extremely careful when writing about real people - our actions have real world consequences." Without a 'mainstream' news source, it won't go into the article... (I mean a mainstream news non-blog source, goalposts shiftable if necessary.) Half of this article's edits are redacted, the first time I've seen that on Wikipedia.
- Having said that, Fresha, I'm disappointed that you're dismissing this as "a brief and cruel meme". It's obviously a bit more than that, hopefully not much more. Some might say you had a vested interest in playing down its significance, to make editing the article easier. Some might say. I wouldn't say that – not until there was a reliable source stating that you did, and as we speak there isn't one. But I would say that Wikipedia's guidelines decide what goes in, and that's enough of an argument, no opinions really needed. I thought "a brief and cruel meme" was almost as speculative and biased as "[he] should obviously go to jail immediately" (which was at least a half-joke BTW), and a little bit unhelpful. I'm sure you disagree.

- „Mainstream news source?“ YOU HAVE COPIES OF HIS SHOW WHERE HE ACTS LIKE A ROCK SPIDER AS REFERENCE. How much more of a ‚reference‘ DO YOU BLOODY WELL NEED??!? His behaviour is documented in his show!!! Asking for ‚kisses and hugs,‘ the children REFUSE, he IGNORES their refusal of consent and FORCES himself on them, SEXUALLY ASSAULTING THEM. ON AIR. And YOU require ‚mainstream news source’ because YOU won’t accept his OWN PUBLISHED PUBLIC DATA OF HIM BEING A CHOMO, ON AIR, IN FRONT OF ALL VIEWERS. Wiki can’t admit to what he published, what those children endured on those recordings, what we WITNESSED? I smell a bloody apologist. Any wiki hasn’t been a google or accurate source of data for quite some time, snd cannot be trusted, inaccurate articles like this one that hide verifiable DATA, ON VIDEO, and pretend it doesn’t exist because it wasn’t published in a bloody newspaper or magazine erode what little confidence one has in wiki to nothing. No one should trust or value wikipedia. https://nypost.com/2021/07/16/wikipedia-co-founder-says-site-is-now-propaganda-for-left-leaning-establishment/ 2001:569:BDEB:4700:E9CB:852E:F9F4:7DB3 (talk) 01:10, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- And you people are the same kind that would hide what jimmy savile was doing, on wiki and have it be about a kindly man helping children because his evil wasn’t documented in the news or in a magazine, he was just assaulting them ON AIR, on his tv show, and that, their own behaviour they happily film and release, according to you is NOT evidence enough for a wiki. THEY BOTH COMMITTED VIOLATION OF CONSENT AND ASSAULT, FILMED, ON THEIR SHOWS. SCREW YOU APOLOGISTS. 2001:569:BDEB:4700:E9CB:852E:F9F4:7DB3 (talk) 01:15, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with politics. I can guarantee you that "the left" is just as disgusted about this creep than anyone. 2600:100A:B028:A93A:0:4D:BC82:1801 (talk) 12:39, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
