Orange Order

edit

Is this not about the same thing as this far more developed article? Nikthestoned 13:37, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think it's a branch of the Orange Order. I really don't know how long this article can last in its current state (or at all, as it doesn't seem to be an especially notable branch), but I'm loathe to put it up for deletion again so soon. I've added it to WikiProject Northern Ireland to see if anyone can help. Larry V (talk | e-mail) 18:19, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

The page is developing and Fermanagh is a very important county relating to Orangeism going back to the Williamite wars, please allow more time for this to be developed as this information is not currently covered by Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ni fact finder (talkcontribs) 23:10, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Orange Order didn't even come into existance until over a hundred years after the Battle of the Boyne, so references to the Williamite wars do not support the retention of this article; the contents of which could be put into a separate section on the main Orange Order article.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:26, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Allot has been done to this page, I hope its existence is now justified on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ni fact finder (talkcontribs) 23:07, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is a fantastic tool for Fermanagh as all too often the border regions are overlooked in favour of Belfast and the larger districts. Northern Ireland does not begin and end in Belfast and Wikipedia should keep this page as a separate segment from the main page. There is no repetition and the points on the page are unique to the Order in Fermanagh. Jennifer Young — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.97.200.168 (talk) 11:10, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Merge There is nothing relevant here that can't be covered in the Orange Order article. We don't need an in-depth breakdown of the Orange Order's structure and activity at local level. There appear to be no sources covering "Fermanagh Orangeism" as a concept, just a mass of synth using individual news reports and things like that (this refers to content deleted from the article). 2 lines of K303 13:23, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Against Merge Rubbish, we do need a breakdown of the Orange's structure, wikipedia is about information. Against Merge Ni fact finder (talk) 01:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Against merge, this information is not covered anywhere else on wikipedia. Ni fact finder (talk) 01:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Against merge, as per reasons given above. Ni fact finder (talk) 01:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Merge If we have an article on Fermanagh Orangeism, soon there will be sister articles on Armagh Orangeism, Antrim Orangeism, Tyrone Orangeism, etc. I think local lodges and branches of the Order itself can and should be covered in the main article.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:16, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Against Merger No logic to this arguement, there are already pages devoted to Fermanagh GaA, Tyrone GAA etc etc as well as Canadian Orangeism and English Orangeism, they all have their place on Wiki as does Fermanagh Orangeism.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ni fact finder (talkcontribs)

See WP:CORP. 2 lines of K303 11:21, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Against Merge As long as the sbnject is notable there's no reason for the merger. Indeed this would apply to individual lodges (although I suspect the bar would be higher). The article has issues, but it is not a reason to kill this off. JASpencer (talk) 09:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

What in this article is notable? Mo ainm~Talk 10:43, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Indeed. Where is the evidence that Fermanagh Orangeism is a notable concept? It seems to be quite the opposite, since the editor is complaining that the Orange Order in other parts of Northern Ireland get all the attention. 2 lines of K303 11:21, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's notable because it is an organisation with 3000 members, with your rationale Fermanagh GAA will also have to go - do you want this too? Against Merger Ni fact finder (talk) 17:03, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Keep Fermanagh Orangeism Separate

edit

Fermanagh is a unique County in Ireland and has certain characteristics and attributes that are separate and distinct to any that may be found in other regions. However in spite of these unique characteristics Fermanagh is all too often overlooked and consequently becomes the County and Region of Ireland that outsiders know the least about. Northern Ireland does not commence and end at Belfast as is all too often the portrayal in national and international news. I am very much in favour of retaining this as a separate page from the main page due to the fact that news and events unique to Fermanagh that are not relevant to be published on the main page would be lost. Should Wikipedia take the decision to remove this page, I will have serious reservations about using it in the future, after all it has its objective as promoting impartiality and this would be exhibiting quite the opposite by considering this page to be unnecessary Furthermore I feel that the existence of this page will set a precedent for other organisations in Fermanagh to emphasise thTeir unique qualities There is no duplicity of information, the article is very authoritive and completely unbiased, a great credit to the author is surely due.

All counties in Ireland, north and south of the border, can justifiably make the same claim. Galway and Dublin are as unique in their individual ways as Fermanagh or Antrim. Anything particular regarding Fermanagh Orangeism should be added to the main article.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:20, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Keep the Fermanagh Orangeism Page

Against Merger

edit

This page has a lot of unique information that will be of interest to people from Fermanagh, I accept that it's not a big institution in this area but it is engraved in the fabric of the county. Wikipedia is about knowledge and information, this page has as much right to exist as the "Canadian Orange Page" (which has less information) or the Fermanagh GAA page which is simply a branch of the All Ireland GAA just like Fermanagh Orangeism is a branch of the Orange Order. Where do we stop with these mergers if pages like this go? Make your choice this debate has been going on since June but make it consistent with all other wikipedia pages online. Decision Time Wikipedia

edit

This page has been allowed to stay since June, now all of a sudden there is an issue. It's time to make a decision, is wiki in favour of freedom of information and education or facism and sectarianism? Please make a decision now!
