THIS SOURCE PROVES MY POINT: http://www.goal.com/en/people/spain/1442/fernando-torres/national

My request concerns his height. It is a well known fact that official websites can give inaccurate information; for instance the official FIFA website claims that his height is 181 cm but the official Chelsea website claims it to be 183 cm. However, almost all other websites state it to be 186 cm. Even the official Liverpool website claimed his height to be 186 cm while he was playing for them from Summer 2007 to January 2011. He claimed on his official website that he is 186 cm as well and when you look at the height contrast when he stands with his team-mates, he easily looks 186 cm. My uncle met him at the 2006 World Cup in Germany while he was on a business trip and Torres himself claimed he was 186 cm. I am aware that this scenario is not very credible and the verisimilitude of this is not astonishing but I plead your understanding.

Many think, Fernando included, he is 186 cm tall. Therefore, I would much appreciate it if his height was changed from 183 cm to 186 cm in his Profile box.

Edit request on 16 January 2012

The page has currently been locked down due to a dispute over content between me and another editor. I believe I am firmly in the right though and believe the content the other editor to put in to be unnecessary speculation. The content in dispute is this:

In December 2011 Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas was forced to deny that Torres would be made available for a transfer at any price during the January transfer window, with the striker's poor performances leading to suggestions that he would be made available on a free transfer.[106] However, it was widely reported that a bid of around half the £50m that Chelsea paid Liverpool one year earlier would be entertained by the London club.[107]

My reasoning is that the content is just speculation. If you allow this content on wikipedia then surely you need to edit lots of players profiles and include teams there linked with, which would be, frankly, silly. Wikipedia is meant to deal in facts and this is just speculation, newspapers make up lots of rumours, should I go and edit the Podolski page and say Arsenal were linked with him? Of course not but that is what is happening here. My other reasons are, the passage actually contained 'speculated' before being recently changed to 'widely reported', it's still speculation however you word it. Another point is the 'leading to suggestions he would be made available on a free transfer'. This is simply not true and never was it implied. I think the whole forementioned passages should be deleted as it is not only unnecessary but also potentially damaging.

Mythical Curse (talk) 15:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

The widespread reports have meant for Torres focus in the papers is more about his fee, the burden and his future than mud on boots. It is not speculation to state reported facts and involve those such as AVB when linked to poor form. Were you to speculate that he may move to another club it would be precisely that because there would be no anchor to ground it in truth. Were you to add that it would be in your own words be unnecessary and potentially damaging. The Footy Show (talk) 16:20, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
But you aren't reporting facts, you're using unreliable sources to back up your points. The Daily Mail made up that story to sell papers, you can't then put it on wiki and report it as if it were facts. The paper just made it up! Also the bit about the free transfer is total rubbish, isn't it? Not even the papers were making that up. If a manager says the player is not availble at any price, it does not mean that they intend to let him go for free! Mythical Curse (talk) 18:29, 16 January 2012 (UTC).
Not done yet. Please gain consensus before making another request. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
That's what i'm doing now... trying to get consensus. I'm not going to make another request, until some sort of consensus is reached here! Mythical Curse (talk) 09:38, 17 January 2012 (UTC).
Blade of the Northern Lights means that you cannot use the "edit protected" request until after you have already gotten consensus. That request needs to remain marked "answered=yes" until such time as you can demonstrate a consensus, then an admin will come to check to make sure there is already consensus, then make the edit (generally). If you cannot get consensus among just current editors, please consider some form of dispute resolution; if you need help on how to do that, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:25, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I understand that, but I see no point in typing all the information up again to then discuss it when it can be discussed here. I thought when you had a dispute you went onto the talk page and discussed it. I did not relise until after I had made the edit that an 'edit request' was not to be used if the edit was disputed. However, I see no reason to make a new section when the information is still valid. Why can't we discuss it here? Mythical Curse (talk) 08:22, 19 January 2012 (UTC).

The infobox accounts for league stats only. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:50, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Error on page.

I have noticed that the page says that Torres has scored only 4 goals for Chelsea. This is factually incorrect as i can remember at least 5 (one against west ham, one against Man U, 2 in a recent game in the champions league and one against aston villa on Saturday) and these are just ones i can remember off hand. There may be one or two more. I cannot edit the page so can someone else please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minimillington (talkcontribs) 21:52, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

I see from above that was a goal against swansea as well which makes at least 6. If the reason for this discrepancy is that the page only shows league goals then that is deceptive and i think wikipedia should put the full amount of goals per club. If your going to break it dowen later in a table then why ot put the full amount? It makes it easier to see how well a player has done at a club. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minimillington (talkcontribs) 21:58, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

It has been noted immediately above this on the talk page that the infobox reflects only league goals. danno 22:09, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Meme Fame?

I have seen Mr. Torres featured in some image macros, such as these:

These macros were probably inspired by his missed shot on an open goal: http://www.sportsgrid.com/soccer/fernando-torres-invigorates-tired-epic-fail-meme-by-failing-epically/ Is this worth documenting? ...follow the trail (talk) 22:31, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Amount of goals for Chelsea.

The amount of goals he has scored for chelsea is not 3 it is 5, one against west ham last season, and this season one at Man u and swansea, and two at Genk. please change this your making him sound extremely bad haha — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.8.126.70 (talk) 10:45, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Someone has to include that he has been an underwhelming failure (so faR) for Chelsea, and his perfomance may have been part part of AVB's downfall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.143.65.80 (talk) 13:41, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

The game against Man Utd 18th Sep, mentions the goal he scored and not his horror miss in front of an open goal widely seen as miss of the season. http://www.skysports.com/football/match_report/0,19764,11065_3422893,00.html could have affected his confidence in front of goal. also update game against QPR, first hatrick for him! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.4.158.134 (talk) 14:21, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Can someone also put the number of assists he got this season, and if possible, find his statistics from previous seasons? It will be a good evaluation of his season in its entirety because although he has a low number of goals, he did contribute decently enough to the team play! Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.61.2.246 (talk) 08:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

These used to be present but were removed on the back of WP:FOOTY consensus that they shouldn't be included. Mattythewhite (talk) 11:45, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Well, do you know where we can get access to this information? Lots of other strikers have their assists noted down, so why shouldn't this information be included either? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.61.2.246 (talk) 13:58, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Assists

I have added the assists on career stats and they were removed as per WP:FOOTY consenus required on the talk page. Though there is nothing on WP:FOOTY with those elements required there. Therefore I will re-add them unless there is consensus not too? Krazytea(talk) 15:17, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

A number of discussions have taken place at WP:FOOTY regarding the existence of assist columns. Here are a few: October 2009, March 2011, December 2011. The consensus from each of these seems to be that assists columns should not be included, even if they are sourced. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 15:41, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
To be fair as per WP:CON there seems to have been no consensus reached, simply unresolved debates. And in fact the March 2011 highlights the point that they should not be included unless the league keeps official stats on assists, which both the EPL and MLS do use and are easily accessible. The debates where consensus is "reached" seem to imply a debate led User:GiantSnowman (against) and User:Eldumpo (for). As you imply in your last sentence "the consensus seems to be", is not really an official consensus. I agree there is further debate to be had here but it is unlikely that consensus has been reached or will easily be reached in the future. Krazytea(talk) 16:12, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Is this worthy of inclusion?

I found this article from 21 July 2003, which stated that Chelsea had made a £28 million bid for Torres at Atletico which was turned down. I think the size of the bid (higher than his transfer from Atletico to Liverpool) would make it worthy of inclusion, as to how early it was in the reign of Abramovich. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2408099/Chelsea-sign-Bridge.html Indiasummer95 (talk) 12:31, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

1. He has not been named Man of the Match after the Spain 3 -1 Tunisia. Xabi Alonso has. ;) Already edited.

2. Goals total for Liverpool through Bolton match was 12 appearances, 6 goals, making his totals 17 and 11, not 18 and 12. Corrected in career table.

3. It's "cool and collected in front of goal". Not "cool and collected in front". 4. He has scored 12 goals for Chelsea, not 7 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phillipsabc (talkcontribs) 22:37, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

I also noted, that on many other footballers pages there are indications in the achievements to the fact that they had been club's or league's top scorers for the season. Well, then i suppose the following should be added:

2002-03 Atletico Mad. top scorer with 14 goals of which 13 in the La Liga (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/1068/season/2002/league/esp.1/atletico-madrid?cc=5739)

2003-04 Atl. Mad. top scorer with 21, 19 in the league (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/1068/season/2003/league/all/atletico-madrid?cc=5739)

2004-05 Atl. Mad. top scorer with 20, 16 in the league (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/1068/season/2004/league/all/atletico-madrid?cc=5739)

2005-06 Atl. Mad. top scorer with 13, all in the league (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/1068/season/2005/league/all/atletico-madrid?cc=5739)

2006-07 Atl. Mad. top scorer with 15, 14 in the league (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/1068/season/2006/league/all/atletico-madrid?cc=5739)

2007-08 Liverpool top scorer with 33, 24 in Premier League (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/364/season/2007/league/all/liverpool?cc=5739)

2009-10 Liverpool top scorer with 22, 18 in the league (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/364/season/2009/league/all/liverpool?cc=5739)

I think all those can be added as following:

Atletico Madrid 5 time top scorer: 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 Liverpool 2 time top scorer: 2007-08, 2009-10

Torres was named Man of the Match for Spain - Ireland in EURO 2012, following the source: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/season=2012/matches/round=15172/match=2003332/index.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.237.160.116 (talk) 15:35, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, that is strange, because nearly none of the achievements that are in his stats have any references. I have added the following 10:
  • Atletico Madrid 5 time top scorer
  • Liverpool 2 time top scorer (easily could be checked via ESPN database, actually i'll put some references)
  • man of the match vs Ireland (i have attached the reference)
  • 3rd top scorer for Spain (i have attached 2 references from 2 different databases which, thoug indirectly, but proove it)
  • Spain's top scorer in UEFA Euro final rounds (no source can be found showing this directly)
  • only player to score in two Euro finals (found a source)
  • ESM team of the year (ESM do not have a database, so i could not find a reference, but i see dozens of other players wiki pages having this in stats without any reference, so, why is it so strict in here. After all, maybe indirectly, but this can be confirmed)
  • 2 goal of the month awards: i'll try to find a source, but probably it isn't possible. Again, many other players have this one too, without any references
  • Confederations Cup Silver boot

and Conf Cup team of the tournament: i have attached a source for this too.

Also, i have attached some references to some of the individual honours, which were there already, but where lacking any reference. Snakeplissken21 (talk) 15:53, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Torres does not have 19 goals in all comps this season. Early career section

In his early career section there are sentences all over the shop ie: it said his mother travelled daily with him to training sessions when he was playing for a futsal team with his friends...she travelled daily with him when he went to Atletico Madrids youth academy in 1995. Also more sentences like which clubs he played for then they speak about his grandfather but it should be in order not all around the joint, there is no structure from beginning to end.

The Early career section should be like this:

Torres was born in Fuenlabrada, Community of Madrid, he became interested in football as a child, his grandfather was not a passionate football fan, but took pride in being an Atlético Madrid supporter and Torres inherited his love for the club.

Torres joined his first team, Parque 84 at the age of five. He played as a goalkeeper, the position his brother played in. When Torres was seven years old he started playing regularly as a striker in an indoor league for the neighbourhood club, Mario's Holland, using the characters from the anime Captain Tsubasa as inspiration. Three years later, aged 10, he progressed to an 11-side team, Rayo 13. He scored 55 goals in his one and only season for the club and was one of three Rayo 13 players to earn a trial with Atlético. He impressed the scouts and joined the club's youth system at the age of 11 in 1995. His father José worked during Torres' childhood, and his mother Flori Sanz travelled daily with him to training sessions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.22.64.13 (talk) 04:25, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Change of Club

His club should now say Atletico Madrid on loan from AC Milan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.68.35.84 (talk) 02:48, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Back to Atleti

In Januari 2015, Torres was transferred to AC Milan, but went straight on loan to Atletico de Madrid. He was already capped three times after his comeback, and has scored two goals against Real Madrid in the Spanish cup, against every expectation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.134.57.31 (talk) 22:41, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Please change his national career table for Spain from 2003 - Current as he hasn't announced retirement from the national team. There should also be 81 goals for his Liverpool club, and 45 goals for Chelsea. EpicWill555 (talk) 02:02, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Not done: as you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article.
Please note that, regarding the goals, as it states "Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only" - This is standard on all our articles on footballers - Arjayay (talk) 10:54, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Evidence

Heres evidence he hasnt retired from the national team. http://www.espnfc.us/european-championship-qualifying/story/2267159/fernando-torres-could-return-for-spain-vincente-del-bosque-says — Preceding unsigned comment added by EpicWill555 (talkcontribs) 04:04, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Goals Scored in Loan Spell at Atletico

The table at the top of the page says he's scored 18 goals in 35 appearances. He has scored 5 league goals in those 35 apprearences, not 18. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.19.240.96 (talk) 22:29, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Games/Goals

For Chelsea Torres has played 131 games and scored 44 goals, so far. [1]

In his original spell with Atletico (2001-2007), Torres scored 84 goals. [2] On the 16th January 2016, Torres scored his 100th goal for Atletico, meaning that from the season start of the 2015-2016 season to Jan 16 2016, he has scored 16 goals. [3] Pteronaut (talk) 00:24, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Some facts

Some facts...he intially started playing as a goalie but when he broke his teeth playing his mother told him to switch positions or stop playing. He was nicknamed El Niño not beacuse of his youthful face but because he started with Atletico de Madrid when he was about 16 yrs old. His grandfather played in Atletico de madrid and thats why he wanted to play on that team as well.

This article was awarded GA status in 2008. It has since dipped in quality towards the tail of the article. In order to have it maintained at that level and not brought for reassessment could I request that some of the senior watchers of this page please edit, in particular, sections pertaining to 2013-14 season at Chelsea, Milan and his second stint at Atletico Madrid. Hello,

Since Torres didn't make any appearance for Chelsea during the 2014-15 season, shouldn't that line be removed from his stats table?
