Merge from Amniotic sac

- To not merge, on the grounds of independent notability and distinct topics warranting separate coverage; improve linking with hatnotes. Klbrain (talk) 05:37, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
These articles deal with the same topic, that is, the combined structure made up of membranes of amnion and chorion. Everything that is said in either article can just as well be said in the other. The terms are used at similar frequencies ([1]), but I slightly favor "Fetal membranes" as the combined article title for a combined. Mikael Häggström (talk) 23:44, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I agree that a merge of some kind is justified. Even accounting for all spelling variations of "foetal / fetal membrane / membranes", amniotic sac does show a slight advantage in prevalence, which has been growing in the past years [2]. Wikidata also shows clear preference for "amniotic sac" [3] (Q1096614) over "Fetal membrane" [4] (Q5445907). The term "amniotic sac" is also more similar to "amniotic cavity" and "amniotic fluid", related terminology (although this is not a definitive reason for use of the term). Personally, I have only ever used to term "amniotic sac" when studying embryology, and have mainly read the term "amniotic sac" from lectures. Bibeyjj (talk) 08:19, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- I don't agree with a merge in this instance. Although I appreciate the articles could practically be on the same page, I feel that they are independently notable concepts. I also think in this instance, because amniotic sac is an independently notable concept from an embryological point of view, it is more confusing for our readers to have them in the same article. I think a parent / child article structure, where fetal membranes covers overall concepts and then points with a hatnote to the "main" articles, fits better with this situation. - I don't agree with a merge - as per Tom's points - it is of special relevance to the embryonic stage.--Iztwoz (talk) 13:20, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
