This article reads like an instruction book.

edit

When i come to Wikipedia, i expect an encyclopedia article. What i got here was an excerpt from Painting Citadel Miniatures. This page is full of fancruft and is incredibly long. 66.59.49.88 (talk) 17:35, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Photos

edit

The reason I do it, and I suspect most others do, is the appearance. This page more than most others on Wikipedia, needs photos. 155.213.224.59 (talk) 14:17, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Techniques/methods

edit

This article would certainly benefit from a description of the specific methods used by mini painters, ie drybrushing, glazing, layering, highlighting, edging,, and some of the additives used, such as matt mediums, glaze mediums, flow release, drying retardants etc. And then a description of how they can be combined to produce effect. 82.22.173.199 (talk) 01:20, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Much needed update

edit

Hi all, I'm planning on embarking on a much needed update for this page. There's quite a few bits that don't really fit what I think most people would consider an encyclopedic entry on figure painting, a lot reads more like someone's opinions on model painting or their experience with it, there's some issues with some of the statement, and there's a few issues with it for Wikipedia standards.

I plan on rewriting some sections to make them more appropriate and flesh them out as well as adding some sections that feel relevant, notably adding sections on technique, tools, method, high level painting, changing the section Dimensions, and fleshing out the section on competitions.

I also hope to add additional citations and sourcing, as well as flesh it out with some photos, as was remarked above a lot of model painting is about appearance so photos are a must, but these will not be a priority and will come after updating the text.

If anyone has any suggestions for sections they feel would be worth including that would be good to hear. Walking throughlife (talk) 23:27, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

ETA that it'll probably actually be worth making a new page for figure painting techniques, and linking to that here instead of making this article unnecessarily long by explaining loads of techniques here and to keep it pretty stating the techniques rather than sounding like a tutorial as WP:NOTHOWTO Walking throughlife (talk) 14:34, 7 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Note on use of Vince Venturella's videos as a source

edit

As per Wikipedia verifiability regulations self published sources, including social media such as YouTube content, should not be used as citation material unless the publisher can be shown to be a bona fide subject matter expert. I doubt anyone actually in the painting community would refute that Venturella is a SME, but I figured some editors who aren't involved in the painting community, just trying to help maintenance of WP, might not be aware of him so I thought I'd just run down his credentials as a SME. He's a world reknowned painter of fantasy and sci-fi styled models, holds numerous awards to his name from painting competitions such as Golden Demon, Crystal Brush and the painting comp at Gen Con to name a few, is regarded highly enough a painter to be called in as an expert judge at competitions such as Creature Caster's Resin Beast, has a long standing and highly regarded in the community series of tutorial, review, and interview videos on YouTube, Hobby Cheating, and has been featured on the Warhammer Community website's Armies on Parade.
