Most Fijian's speak Fijian, approximatly 84%, Kimasu 9%, 7% Brenian but some travellers/tourists have their wn language from their country

The letters f, j and p are only used for loanwords. The letter b is pronounced /mb/; c is pronounced /ð/; d is pronounced /nd/; dr is pronounced /nr̃/; g is pronounced /ŋ/ (as in sing); q is pronounced /ŋg/ (as in finger); v is pronounced bilabially (/β/). Long vowels may be indicated in dictionaries by a macron (āēīōū) or by doubling (aa ee ii oo uu), but they are not usually differentiated at all in normal writing. —Stephen 10:11, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

discuss merge

This Articles East Fijian languages, West Fijian languages and related dialects of the Fijian Language I think should be merged with this Article Fijian Languages as really they discuss variations of the same topic and these other Language articles on the Fijian language are just small stubs and perhaps the Fijian language article should be changed to just "Language in Fiji" and cover all related languages in the Fiji Islands. feedback and thoughts on this matter. 'Phonology' & 'Orthography' – mess

• [x], [h] not covered in Orthography
• [h] mentioned in Phonology under the table, but not included in it
• 'j' not covered in Phonology (is it [tyV]?)
• 'w' transcribed differently in both sections
• [ɳɖ] spelt variously as 'nr' & 'dr'
• "Hence, the Fijian name for Fiji, Viti, from an allophonic pronunciation of [βitʃi] as [ɸidʒi]" -- does "allophonic" mean "dialectal" here?
• the Omniglot page linked to under the article gives 'h' for [h], 'x' for [ʔ], 'z' for [ⁿd͡ʒ], all in loanwords only

Boumaa Fijian is NOT Standard Fijian

Please stop using Dixon's "A Grammar of Boumaa Fijian" as a reference to edit this article. Standard Fijian is based on what is spoken on the island of Bau. Boumaa Fijian is spoken on the island of Taveuni and it's different enough from Standard Fijian that it should probably have its own wiki page. Fjii (talk) 16:32, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Pronunciation of "di"

According to this article, "di" is pronounced like "dshi", but according to the Nadi article (a town in Fiji) the town is pronounced like "nandi" and not like "nandshi". Why is this?--31.16.73.14 (talk) 11:47, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

This article is a mess from top to bottom

This article goes into detail about the use of “h” and “f”, which are specified as only being used in loan words from other languages, but then includes “z” in the official Fijian alphabet when “z” is also only used in loan words. Either they should all be included, or none of them should. Also, half of the article is written in the Taveuni dialect and half is written in Bau, or “Standard Fijian”. I cannot understand Fijian, but isn't this video some kind of commercial for a "rustic boutique hotel located in the heart of Suva"?
