The Change to Macy's
Since all the Filene's stores are currently being transitioned to Macy's, should all the Filene's locations be changed to Macy's or until September when the transition is complete? Any suggestions? Thanks! Bucs2004 00:25, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm assuming that we shouldn't change them just yet. The Filene's in my local mall may now be owned by Macy's, but the sign on the store still says Filene's. I don't know if that is true for any of the other stores, but I would think that until the name gets officially changed, when the transition is complete, is when we should change it. - Use the "Upload file" link on the left side of this page (part of the toolbox). Be sure to put the appropriate licensing info (I always use the GFDL Self-Made license). Then you can go ahead and add it to the page. This contribution would be greatly appreciated, since nobody seems to be able to find a pic now of a Filene's! tiZom(2¢) 22:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Filene's; The name
Is the name Filene's up for ownership?
Enhancing the History of Filene's
I worked in various capacities for Filene's in the downtown Boston corporate HQ on Washington Street, reputed to be the longest street in the USA -- for the President, in Human Resources (Executive Recruitment), Men's Buying, Operations, Gift Registries, Mail and Phone, and Advertising, etc. Of course, all of this would lend itself towards an oral history project, perhaps bankrolled by the surviving Filene's family (or even Macy's), but I recall, during my years in the Advertising Department on the 8th floor, an elderly woman in public relations who was considered to have been the institutional memory of Filene's. I doubt that she's still alive, but she would have been an invaluable resource for enlivening Boston's history of Downtown Crossing from the 30s or 40s through the present.
I have some recent photos of the store building and neighborhood from the past few years before the store was closed, but sadly I have none of the staffers at corporate HQ.
I'd like to see a list of the senior management teams and a discussion of how that changed over the more recent years during the grooming-for-sale and later the acquisition periods.
I'd also like to see more of a history of Filene's and the Filene's family, including the rooftop zoo, the competition with Macy's, which took over Jordan Marsh, and historic comments about the core businesses of this flagship store, particularly cosmetics (the floorspace of the Filene's cosmetics counter was reputed to be worth more per square inch than any floor of any high rise in Boston, including all financial firms. The claim may be spurious, but it was widely relayed during the Nineties.
