Manufacturing Fillets

edit

Fillets have to be included in all manufactured parts (machined, cast, molded, forged etc, etc) for the simple fact that sharp edges are impossible to achieve in nature.

Depending upon application tight tolerance control may be necessary on fillets due to highly stressed areas, ease of producibility or other factors.

It is common industrial practice to use a general note on Engineering Drawings such as:

ALL UNSPECIFIED CASTING FILLET RADII .063+/-.015 CORNER RADII .015+/-.015

If tighter control is neccessary as determined by the Cognizant Engineer on certain features then this would be instructed elsewhere on the "face-of-drawing". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.249.47.9 (talkcontribs)

Does anyone know the mathematical formulae used by CAD packages to generate fillets? -- Impsswoon (talk) 00:48, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
