Citing References...
edit- Just about all the facts in the article have that have the "citiation needed" tag were on the Official Filter website at one point, but the News and Rich Words pages that contained said info (like Rich's tattoo and trip to rehab, for example) have been down for months. Avid Filter fans know much of this information to be true, and most can be verified by some means via the Filter message board.
"Title of Record" syncs up with movie "The Thin Red Line"
edit- First of all, "Title of Record" is a fantastic and intense disc. One night, in an impaired state and after long, continuous listening to the disc, I watched the war movie, "The Thin Red Line". For several days I kept thinking that the two could complement each other. I began playing around with it one night in a hotel room and dude, THEY DO! Pause the movie at the 2:33 mark in Chapter 5 (a soldier making a crazy face just before getting out of a boat), then start both disc and movie up. It is insane the first time through the disc. At the end of the disc, pause the movie and start it again and they will continue to sync, but not at the same level as the first time through. I hope you enjoy it. Arthur Lee?
edit- I've been a devout Filter fan since their debut, and have never seen any mention anywhere of an Arthur Lee contributing to the band, even after thorough research. He definitely was never an official band member, and if he indeed contributed to demo recordings, that information should be added to the trivia section along with a link proving this. I have seen several other articles floating around the internet claiming this, but keep in mind they were all cut-and-pasted from Wikipedia while still containing that misinformation at the time.
Hey Man, Nice Shot

The result was no merge into Filter (band). -- Tabanger 22:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I propose the merger of Hey Man, Nice Shot to this band page. The song page will never garner much more than a stub, as its notability is unlikely to expand past where it is now. --Kickstart70-T-C 22:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose. The song is one of the most (if not the most) well-known songs from the band. It easily passes the Notability criteria, and if enough research is done and references cited, this article could (if it doesn't already) well surpass the amount of relevant information that could easily be condensed into the main band article. Tabanger 02:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Just adding a little bit to my argument here. Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Songs states that a song is Notable if it meets at least one standard. "HMNS" meets two standards (at a minimum), as it "is a released single by a notable artist, band or group" and "has been ranked on a national or significant music chart" (it hit #76 on the Billboard Hot 100). There's no question that the song meets Notability requirements. The guideline further states that there should be "enough verifiable material to warrant a reasonably detailed article." This article appears to be reasonably detailed, and could be detailed further with more research. At this point, it simply needs to be sourced properly, and is certainly far from a candidate for merging. Tabanger 03:35, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Two weeks have passed, and there seems to be no support (or more discussion) for the merger, so I am closing it with a No Merge Tabanger 22:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

editFrom the AMG article on Filter:
..."After NIN finished its lengthy first tour in the early '90s, Patrick and Liesegang met through a mutual friend and began to record industrial rock together. Their debut album, Short Bus, released on Reprise in 1995, was recorded by the two at a small house on the outskirts of Cleveland. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.62.92.114 (talk) 20:51, 14 January 2008 (UTC) u

Youtube information
editAs I have said numerous times in the edit comments, the fact that a fan created a youtube page with Filter's old music videos, is not Wikipedia material. Look up the wikipedia guidelines. Youtube, and fansites, (and thus, definitely not youtube fansites) don't belong as sources or as part of the articles. It's not notable. That's something that belongs on a Filter messageboard or something, not here. And don't view me as the bad guy, if I wasn't so quick to delete this each time, someone else just would. editRichard Patrick on drums
editIPs keep making this claim. This is incorrect. He isn’t a drummer. He knows how to work a drum machine but that does not make him a drummer. Sergecross73 msg me 04:56, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Genres in Infobox
editI know Filter covers a lot of territory as far as their genre classifications between their varied songs over the years and I also know Wikipedians tend to be pretty anal about not cluttering infoboxes with too much information. While there are multiple sources that call Filter's music Hard Rock (I don't really agree with that, but here we are), I'd like to also add Industrial Metal and Electronic Rock to the infobox since I feel more of their songs actually reflect those genres. Problem is, I know the infobox rules generally limit three genres to the infobox (the guideline is two to four, but I've gotten into some spats on other pages over this). I'm guessing Hard Rock ended up in the infobox because it happens to have more sources for it in the article, but it's not quite an accurate depiction of Filter's overall sound (in my opinion, at least). I don't know, I wanted to hear what anyone else who watches this page has to say. StuOnThis (talk) 15:06, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Generally, in situations like this, you just go by the genre you find used most commonly in reliable sources. If there's really a dispute here, then the best way would be to just dig up as many as we can and see which are most common. Anecdotally, as someone who has written about them a lot in the past (I've created and/or primarily written virtually all of their studio album articles) I would agree that that hard rock is probably not a primary one. Probably neither is electronic rock. It seems like variations of alt rock/metal and industrial rock/metal pop up the most. That would be my prediction, should we really dig into this. Filter's recent Facebook posts
editOn Filter's Facebook page, under one of their posts for their new single, "For the Beaten," either Richard Patrick or his publicist posted that the two 2020 singles ("Thought and Prayers" and "Murica") are not on the upcoming album, which itself has now also reverted back to it's working title, "They've Got Us Right Where They Want Us, At Each Other's Throats."[1] Since it's still just a Facebook comment and not in an actual news article, I'm not making any changes yet, but I suppose it will be happening sooner or later. The Algorithm
editFilter just shared on their Facebook page a pdf from a magazine that states the new album's name has changed yet again to "The Algorithm." Get ready to update! StuOnThis (talk) 20:42, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- Ugh. Not again. Hopefully it'll release soon so this stops happening. Sergecross73 msg me 23:36, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- Given the timeline of album release schedules and having artwork and promotion materials contracted, I think this may be it, finally. Definitely an improvement over its working title, at least. StuOnThis (talk) 13:09, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Hired Gun Documentary
editIt's understandable why they have had so many member changes in this band after hearing Patrick's comments during this documentary. 66.26.64.131 (talk) 22:07, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please read WP:NOTAFORUM. This is not the place for idle chat about the band, it's for discussion on writing the article. Unless you have some constructive suggestions on editing the article, this doesn't belong on the talk page. Sergecross73 msg me 23:35, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
