Cost of GBAs

edit

The article says: "getting four people with GBAs and cables together to play this game is daunting, unlikely, and expensive."

I wonder if this true anymore. It should probably be switched to the past tense, as GBAs are $10-20 each, and a single person can now feasibly buy four GBA-SPs for only $160 or so (less than the cost of most PC graphics cards.)

I wonder if it should mention it at all. The only hardship faced was getting the GCN-GBA cables, which wasn't that much at all - even less if each player bought their own cable... the game wasn't intended for one player to buy four GBAs and four GCN-GBA cables, but for people who already have GBAs amongst themselves. So it wasn't really that daunting unless everyone you happened to want to play with were either cheap or non-gamers, in which case it wouldn't be a huge loss in the first place... at any rate, I agree that it ought to be at least in the past tense. 24.70.68.199 07:39, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
The section refers to the price of GBAs at time of release; it's referring to reaction, not "reaction after 2 years". At the time it was in no way worth it, and, in my opinion, definitely not worth it to buy 4 GBAs now. I can only think of two games that would utilize it. Oh wait, NONE. Because neither LOZ 4 Swords nor Crystal Chronicles actually USED the GBA. It just REQUIRED it. Okay, sorry, I've gone much farther than I needed to.--Katana314 01:28, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also: I took out "(But the family trade Thief isn't an option.)" since the family trade Warrior/Scholar/Magician aren't options, either, so this isn't a particularly useful bit of information... 24.70.68.199 07:37, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I tweaked the text here to reflect that this a relatively high expense when compared to the price of the game, and that the difficulty is more logistical. This can be further amended as needed. -- Slordak 14:52, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Last Final Fantasy game for the Nintendo console

edit

"Since Sony partially owns Square Enix, the company that makes the Final Fantasy series, it seemed extremely unlikely that Final Fantasy would ever be published on a Nintendo console again."

I'm not sure about this. As people know, there is a Final Fantasy game being made for the Wii and it's also being made by Square Enix.

It seemed unlikely. At the time, Final Fantasy was not lined up for any of Nintendo's consoles, save for re-releases of previous titles on the GBA. It's like saying that the odds of Rare releasing another Banjo-Kazooie game on one of Nintendo's consoles are slim to none, as they are owned by Microsoft now. Of course, now we now that Square Enix has no problem releasing original titles on other consoles. 69.165.194.193 00:39, 15 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

With Snake appearing in SSBB, anything can happen. --Katana314 01:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Criticisms

edit

Can anyone document the critisisms? They seem to be two fan boys (one who doesn't mind Nintendo, the other who seems to hate it) and they just parry each other's comments. --Thaddius 01:55, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crystal Chronicles Template?

edit

It's now apparent that Square Enix plans on continuing Crystal Chronicles as it's own series...so should it get it's own template, or at least section under the FF template? Right now all 3 CC games are listed under "spinoff."--Claude 06:42, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hurdy, Gurdy and the Scholar of Tipa

edit

The article says:

"Gurdy: The rather untrustworthy Clavat makes his living out of cheating people out of their money. Players see him cheat both the Fields of Fum caravan and Amidatty. Possessing a great acting ability and silver tongue he seems to get away with it, though he often comes begging to players for help or money. Though one of the less pure characters he does help players a great deal in their quest with his poems. It later turns out that he has suffered from a loss of memories and barely knows who he is."

"Hurdy: A traveling priest who is apparently Gurdy's brother. However, near the end of the game, players will be given clues that suggest that Hurdy IS Gurdy, who thought his name was Gurdy after his memories were stolen by Raem, but this is not confirmed."

"The Scholar of Tipa: In year 2 onwards till around year 5 the village elder will stop characters on the bridge on their way out of Tipa to give them some information about a scholar from Tipa who wanted to rid the world of miasma and hired the Black Knight for protection when he traveled in search of a way to get rid of miasma. The scholar apparently dissapeared after sending a letter home to him from Mag Mel. He also claims that he recited certain poems which seemed to refer to the Lynara Desert. Gurdy will later recite these poems for players revealing that he could possibly have been the scholar before he lost his memories, however this is not confirmed. "

Not confirmed? In the official guide is confirmed that Gurdy, Hardy and the scholar of Tipa are not different persons.

"Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Official Guide" says:

"The story of Hurdy is told by Tipa's elder. // According to the elder, Hurdy was a young scholar born in Tipa and full of good intentions. // After several adventures, he quickly learned that the key to the enigma of the world lay in miasma streams. He eventually discovered the five poems leading to the treasure of the Linary Desert... // Upon hiring the Black Knight to protect him. // Hurdy and Gurdy are in fact the same person."

Hurdy is the Scholar of Tipa, and Gurdy is Hurdy.

Expand what? Kariteh 08:15, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done. Now, Anybody want to UN-merge it? Create a "Music of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles" page? There is still an album called "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Opening Theme - Sound of the Wind" which I have not put in (YET). Anybody care to add a bit to what I put? (more text, a ref or two...)happypal (Talk | contribs) 12:18, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree. The general trend is that a "Music of" article is created when there is more than one album. Kariteh 13:03, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll get working on it then (I don't know when). I'll need a little help with text and intro, cuz I really suck at that. If anybody wants to help, it's fine if you edit this page, then I'll move everything together.happypal (Talk | contribs) 13:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

CC a FF9 spinoff.

edit

I think someone should have pointed out once that Crystal Chronicles was an obvious spinoff of Final Fantasy 9 or maybe even a sequel. The fact that the character designs are identical to FF9 and that most every supporting character from FF9 reappears in CC(examples-Stilzskin,Artemicon, Mog) is a dead giveaway. Everytime I try to add this it gets edited out by whoever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.4.192.187 (talkcontribs) 06:32, 6 August 2007

We'll need citations and references for that. If not, it's apparently Original research. — Blue 07:28, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just because the monster designs are similar doesn't mean anything... and because there are moogles (especially Moogles that have been in other Final Fantasy games, when talking of famous Stiltzkin, Artemicion, and Mog)... That's nothing, really. That's not "most every supporting character". What about Black Mages? Qu? Any nezumi? Tantalus Troupe? Beatrix? I'd say most of the supporting characters from FF9 are missing, not reappearing.. -JC 10:09, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Music of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

edit

I would like to move the Audio section to a new page. It is currently as big as the rest of the article. I can do this via simple cut and paste, but is there anyway to do a correct "move" on the subsection only? I'm also not too familiar with the tags requesting for help. Thanks for the help. happypal (Talk | contribs) 13:06, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think the proper way to go about it is to put up the split template on the top of the page. From what I can gather it's explained here.--Niroht | Smoke signals 21:26, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, I think it would be better not to move it. It is stronger in this article. If we moved it, it would just become a boring Stub.happypal (Talk | contribs) 16:24, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:FFCC-characters.jpg

edit

Image:FFCC-characters.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Princess Fiona

edit

The article says she is half-Selkie, noticeable through "her large bust, and Selkie crest on her left cheek." However, the Final Fantasy Wiki states her mother, who had passed away, was a Clavat. Her Selkie like appearance in Leuda is supposed to be a disguise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redeemer3 (talkcontribs) 00:12, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Indeed you are correct. The latest game in the series, My Life as a Darklord, specifically states that she is half-lilty, half-clavat. I have made the change to the article, however the only citations I could find to back this up are in fansites and on youtube and they are frowned upon as sources. However, I assure you that the game does state this. It is a shame we cannot cite software like we can books. --Taelus (talk) 11:49, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (series)

edit

This article has no demonstrable individual notability, and could have all its content easily placed inside the real parent article. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:46, 14 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Agreed; the only thing in the series article that's not copied from the first game's article or the music article is a couple paragraphs of plot recap from the games of the series, and the list of games from the navbox. At 8 items + music, it couldn't even really support a list. --PresN 21:28, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Been a few weeks and no objections, could you merge this User:PresN? I would but I am bad with mergers of this kind, not sure what to keep and what to toss. Perhaps we could merge the Code Age article too...? :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:49, 1 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Merged; there really wasn't anything to merge in- the list of sequels (except for the browser game) was already at the first game's legacy section, the world info was a mix of the setting sections of two of the articles, and the music was just a summary of the music article. --PresN 16:45, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I will use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:18, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Immediate Failures

edit
  • It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria
  • It contains copyright infringements - a copyvio check brought up very little
  • It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include {{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}). -
  • It is not stable due to edit warring on the page. -

Gameplay

edit
  • Wording in general needs an overhaul in this section. It doesn't flow, and reads like a lot of disjointed sentences. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Is "Tipa Caravan" a name? If so, it should be ital Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • "adventurers who travel the world searching for rare trees which produce a special substance dubbed "myrrh" which fuel the crystals protecting the world's settlements from the poisonous Miasma" - a lot of supposition here. Miasma really should have more information, as it's not really a normal thing. I'd also recommend changing the word "dubbed", as it suggests that the substance was found and named during the events of the game. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • The game plays through a cycle of events; the caravanners set out from their village, travelling to the trees guarding the vessel which gathers the myrrh, exploring dungeons in which the trees reside, then return home to renew their village's protective crystal.[5]:12-13 - Is this really gameplay, or plot? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Players choose their player character - Rephrase. Either Player Characters are..., or players choose their character... Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • they can access two genders and four body types. - access sounds like a really poor word here. How can you access a gender? Could you not simply say characters can be male or female? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • "Each character's attributes are further customised by choosing the profession of their family" - reword. I'd also like to see an example as how this effects gameplay.
  • The main areas are dungeons which follow different environmental themes, such as a forest or abandoned mines - I'd remove "main areas", unless you can source it.
  • Progress through these areas relies on navigating the environment and solving puzzles. - What does navigating the environment mean? Surely you do that in every game? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • The elemental affinity of the player's attacks can be changed using special crystals found in dungeons. - remove "Special". Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Depending on player performance, points are awarded which are used to raise attributes. Artifacts found in dungeons can also be used to raise attributes when equipped to characters - shorten - Both of these sentences say the same thing! Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Multiplayer also unlocks an exclusive mini-game dubbed "Blaze's Caravans", a racing game played on the GBA - What type of racing game? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • The type of radar and what it shows is determined by the color the player's Moogle is painted during stays in towns and visits to the Tipa Caravan's hometown - I know what a moogle is... But the casual fan is going to be very confused by this Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Overall this section needs cleanup. The last paragraph is pretty good though! Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • @Lee Vilenski: This was way too much to respond to each individually, so I'm doing a post down here. I've done my best to tidy up the section and address your concerns above. I've expanded on the pieces you noted as lacking, trimmed some sentences, removed superfluous info, and merged a few sentences together. As to the cycle of the caravan travelling and returning, that's tied as much to gameplay as story, and after my edits it should be clearer. On a personal note: I've always hated putting gameplay sections together, it's so much faff and not nearly as interesting as the narrative or behind-the-scenes stuff. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:16, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
That's ok. I'll finish the rest tomorrow and then look back at this. I understand some people don't like putting these sections together. I quite like it, as it's explaining what the game plays like. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:02, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Plot

edit
  • One big issue I have with the article as a whole is the use of the word: Caravan. Your dictionary has two meanings for the word, but I believe in this article, it's an in-game term, and means a party of people? (I may be wrong). In this case, I'd be very careful about the wording, and not use offshoots such as "caravanners", instead, "the members of the caravan".Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • This needs a serious copy-edit. The plot should be the summary of the game as a whole, wheras this seems to be a list of the events in the game. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • For example, "Hearing of the world's plight and the caravanners' efforts to help their home, the Carbuncles direct them to Mount Vellenge, the source of the Miasma. There they fight the Meteor Parasite to halt the flow of miasma once and for all. When the caravanners are about to strike the final blow, they are pulled into an alternate dimension: there they meet Mio, a girl-shaped being connected to peoples' memories" - This goes between event to event, but seems to have no reason for any of the plot being mentioned. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • "While both feed on memories to sustain themselves" - This is not a sentence that can just be said, and not explained. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • As a whole, the plot section is not very well created. I'm usually pretty lenient on plots, as they don't need to be sourced, and they are very POV. However, they usually follow the same process as any story, they lay the initial setting, then what the issues are, and what the resolution is. This one isn't good enough for a GA. I'll take another look if you work on it. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • @Lee Vilenski: I've seriously done my best with all this. I've deleted several non-essential elements, generally condensed events, and tried to make it less in-universe in tone. As to your issue with the plot being a series of discrete events, it's nothing I could help; it's actually structured like that regardless of how much it's written. And yes, Raem and Mio only appear at the end with a slightly nonsensical info dump. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:42, 18 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Release

edit
  • In North America, the game released the following year on February 9.[32] In Europe, the game was released on March 12 of that year,[33] while in Australia it released on March 19.[34] The game was published worldwide by Nintendo.[28][33] - Should at least once say that it's 2004. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Reception

edit
  • The art design and music were given praise, but the story was considered lacking by several reviewers compared to other Final Fantasy games. The gameplay received praised for its implementation of multiplayer despite the hardware requirements and its detrimental effect on the single player campaign. - I know you are referring to many reviewers stating this, but it needs to be explained. Otherwise, it seems as though metacritic said this Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • I chose by publication due to everyone saying virtually the same thing about each aspect with minor variations. Typically other reviewers for my GANs have frowned upon seemingly repeating the same praise or criticism over and over again. --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:47, 19 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
