Featured article push

All right then. This article is really coming together. I have already placed it for peer review, but there are a few things we need to consider before taking this to FA:

  • Lead - excellent work, it is at least three paragraphs long
  • Gameplay section - also good work in consolidation as well as adding in reliable sources.
  • Plot and setting section - nice work for everyone consolidating this section here.
  • Development section - excellent work.
  • Music section - looks excellent, well-sourced.
  • Release and post-release - looks pretty good, especially in the reception subsection.
  • Controversy section - also looks good.

This article might need to undergo a thorough copyediting and there might be some issues here before I nominate it for FAC. Any other comments or objections? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:59, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd say before FAC that we let the PR go on for a bit and get suggestions there, and that we get a copy-edit prior to nominating. Deckiller might be willing, now that he's back. I'd also like to co-nom it with you. --PresN 00:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Good idea. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:15, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I've gone through all of Finetooth's comments in the PR. From looking around, that's probably all we're going to get- looks like pretty much all PRs get one in-depth review like that from a PR regular, and that's it. I'd recommend closing up that PR and asking Dec if he would be willing to copy-edit the article. I'm going to go ahead and ask him; I'll leave it up to you to close the PR or not as you wish, since you opened it. --PresN 22:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Done I have already closed the PR for this article. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Sequel?

Some IPs and users have been apparently added speculation of a sequel. Should we remove it? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 18:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

On second thought, the sequel has just been announced. By the way, unless someone objects, I am going to take this article to FAC. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 18:44, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Threw in a sequel section, now that we have sources. I haven't gotten a response back from Dec, so lets go ahead with the FAC. --PresN 18:57, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, then. Before we take this to FAC, I have already placed a request for this article to be copyedited here. After it is done, I am going to nominate it for FAC. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:02, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Nominated for FAC now. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 03:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
This article's FAC is now closed with no consensus to promote it. We should use Ultimania translations, and we can nominate this again for FAC if it is needed. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 23:17, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm translating them, but it's long, slow work. I've only gotten 4 pages done, which leaves like 40 to go. --PresN 23:59, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Ultimania development information currently not in the article

The following sources should be translated and used to expand the current incomplete article:

Final Fantasy XIII Battle Ultimania
Final Fantasy XIII Scenario Ultimania
Final Fantasy XIII Ultimania Omega

Anyone willing to help translate even one page is welcome! Jonathan Hardin' (talk) 17:53, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Controversy?

What happened to the controversy section? Everything in there seemed like important information regarding the game/release including the "bricking" which led to lawsuits and the UK advert breaking regulations. That's not minor talks that would be considered "fanboy" or POV, those we real news stories. Stabby Joe (talk) 01:23, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Square probably has a team of "clean-up" editors going through minimizing/removing anything that might make them look bad. --184.9.247.142 (talk) 04:26, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

not an rpg from wired source

This isn't mentioned anywehere in the article that both the wired review and the developers mention its not suppose to be a (traditional) rpg; the wired one gives it more negatively, but according to the wired review, the developers wanted it to be seen more positively as creating a new genre.Jinnai 00:44, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Is it a magazine or a website to look at?Bread Ninja (talk) 00:52, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Critisism of development

[2] - not sure where this should be put actually in development or reception.Jinnai 16:14, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

could be added in both.Bread Ninja (talk) 16:33, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Command Synergy Battle (CSB)

Just saying that this is the official name of the battle system used in Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I've added the official name to the article. G-Zay (talk) 05:42, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

FA restart?

All right. I am considering a go for another FA restart. There is a problem: we should continue translating the Ultimania sources and expand the development sections with reliable sources before I take this to FAC again. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 20:35, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Play it safe and continue translating and expanding.Bread Ninja (talk) 20:41, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, the article's ready to go whenever we get those translated. It's going to take a while. I got the Kitase/Toriyama interview in the Scenario Ultimania translated (not added to the article, though) and G-Zay got someone to give him a rough translation of the main points of the Watanabe interview from the Scenario- see the Daisuke Watanabe article. For the rest, though.... I was using the demo version of Abbyy Finereader to OCR the images in the section above into Japanese text, then throwing it through Google translate. The OCR'd text is very sketchy, though, as the images aren't high-enough resolution, really. The translated stuff is word soup. I then went through and manually fixed the wrong bits character by character- took me several days to get a 3 page interview done, though it got a lot faster as I went along.
So! We need to get the 4 interviews from the Battle Ultimania done, interviews 1-3 from the Scenario Ultimania, and the last interview from the Omega. I firmly believe that the voice actor interviews are not needed on this page, but only on the Character page- if we ever want to get that to GA/FL/FA, we'll need them. I'll make a subpage for the information that we have when I get home, so that we can try to get this done soon. If you know anyone that can translate Japanese, try to get them to help as well! --PresN 20:46, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I think it'd be helpful to have some preview/E3 reception. :> - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 23:11, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I've started a subpage for the ultimania translations - Talk:Final Fantasy XIII/Ultimania translations. Please help out with transcribing the scans linked there, or with translating them to English! --PresN 20:35, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

[3] Does this article contribute anything not said yet? Axem Titanium (talk) 00:27, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
No, looks like it's a summary of ref 47, the post-mortem in Game Developer. --PresN 05:07, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Date project started.

According to the FFXIII Scenario Ultimania, the FFXIII project was started by Product Development Division 1 in April 2004 for PS2, shortly after the release of FFX-2 International in Japan. I've made the changes to the article seeing as it states the project began in 2005. This article has been giving the wrong information to the readers by stating 2005 and yet it's managed to reach FA status with this error? That doesn't speak well for this page at all.

Secondly, I've added the opinion of the game from Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada to the article and created a better structure for the 'Reception' section. I've added a 'Company Response' section where I have put the words of the company regarding the reception of the game. The words of Yoichi Wada have been added to this section. --G-Zay (talk) 13:10, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Erm what the fuck (Crystal)

Why the fucking hell is this being redirected to when I click on Crystal Engine. That's not even a question, it's an order to change it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.177.61.42 (talk) 14:35, 19 October 2011‎

Open world?

Could this game be classified as open world?ECW28 (talk) 09:02, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

No. --PresN 17:51, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
This is actually one of the least open world games. ECW28 - when you're looking for games that are considered open world, good examples of this are games like Fallout 3, Skyrim, many MMOs such as World of Warcraft, etc. Games that artificially restrict you from travelling between locations are not considered open world games.Caidh (talk) 20:10, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Motomu Toriyama should be under Writers

Toriyama was credited as scenario designer and was in the scenario interview for the Ultimania. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.190.156.120 (talk) 08:33, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Motomu Toriyama should be under writers

He created the characters, he designed the scenario. Even his GDC presentation made it very clear he helped write it. Brayden96 (talk) 04:41, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
