editsecond paragraph text is identical to some of this page: http://www.visitdunkeld.com/scottish-trivia-178.htm could this be a problem? April 27/06
- I am taking it out as there has been no response. May 29/06
- and have added some sourced content to replace it. June 2/06
- The picture in the article looks more like Fingal's cave when I last visited it: the photo on this talk page appears to have been taken close up, perhaps using a wide angle lens, but despite looking different is probably of the same cave--dave souza 3 July 2005 23:16 (UTC)
Wishing Chair - Bad Link
editThe link to the Wishing Chair in the article on Fingal's Cave is to a folk rock group called Wishing Chair. I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the actual formation referred to in the article.
acoustics
editBBC 1's "The Great British Summer" it was mentioned that the cave has extremely good acoustics and that many people go there to perform in order to experience the unique sound quality. Is there anyone who could confirm that and perhaps provide a paragraph on it? Have any famous bands performed there? Ammi 20:57, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
comment...
editDoes anyone else find the quote from Walter Scot amusing? He talks about the cave, writes an entire paragraph on the description, then ends by saying no one could ever describe it!
Translation
editIn reference to "Die Hebriden (in English, Fingal's Cave Opus 26)":
Doesn't "Die Hebriden" just translate to "The Hebrides"? It certainly doesn't translate to Opus 26. Greeneyzblu 21:05, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Good point. An over-zealous piping of the link to Hebrides Overture, have made it clar that Finger's cave is a common name for the piece. .. dave souza, talk 23:14, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Boats in cave
editThe source http://www.showcaves.com/english/gb/caves/Fingals.html doesn't say anything about boats not being able to enter the cave. It does mention that "There are no trips to the cave from Oban or Iona." Maybe someone understood that and the subsequent sentence to mean that boats are unable or prohibited from entering the cave. Scare quotes
edit- The cave was "discovered" by 18th-century naturalist Sir Joseph Banks in 1772.
Why the scare quotes? If it was discovered by him, remove the quotes; if the cave was already known to any local residents then provide evidence of this earlier knowledge of the cave and re-word the above to remove the scare quotes. -- B.D.Mills (T, C) 06:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
True enough. I have replaced "discovered" with "brought to the attention of the English-speaking world". Ben MacDui 08:58, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Formation
editThe section describes the formation of the geological formation but not of the cave itself. I've tried to find something on that but have failed so far. The cave is unusual enough a description of how it was carved or shaped should be here.Dismalscholar (talk) 20:10, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
