This page is lacking many citations. I removed one sentence in particular that I know to be incorrect: "LaGuardia is the only Specialized High School that trains students in both atelier and conservatory arts and in college preparatory academic subjects." This is simply not true, as many high schools offer conservatory art and college prep academics throughout the US. -KevRus (talk) 08:18, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notable alumni

edit

Should the alumni list be separated out into its own article? (ie, List of LaGuardia High School people) Wl219 07:19, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I ran into an edit problem trying to make this section in columns. Will look at it again later. Tvoz 16:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, I think I figured out what the problem was - the list of alumni now seems to work and is taking up a lot less space. I don't have any problem with keeping this section on the page (rather than as a separate list), but I do think the rest of the article could use expansion - perhaps what kinds of courses are offered, etc. Interested in what others here think. Well, the list still seems pretty long to me, but I have nothing personally invested in this article so it's up to you and others who have made significant contribs to decide. Just an observation. Agree with you about adding a curriculum section. Also, the intro para mentions LaGuardia's proximity to Juilliard - is this relevant? Are there programs for LaGuardia students at Juilliard? Wl219 02:15, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nor do I, so I will leave this decision to others. Tvoz 18:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the list should only include those who have wikipedia articles. That would at least make it smaller.Classicalia 07:33, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Freddie Prinze was listed as an alumnus. But, to be an alumnus of an institution, one must have been graduated therefrom. I have therefore removed his name. I would like, though, to suggest that the section be relabelled “Notable attendees”, with some sort of indication in the case of the minority whether they were graduated. (I don't know whether graduates will be the minority or the majority amongst the notable attendees.) —SlamDiego 15:22, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it is a hard and fast rule that alumni can only be applied to those in possession of a certificate of graduation: alumnus which leads to alumni--Amedeo Felix (talk) 15:21, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Al Pacino?

edit

Isn't Al Pacino (born 1940) a bit old to be an alumnus of a school that was founded in 1984?

The school founded in 1984 was a merger between two schools, one of them that Pacino is an Alumni from. RatherBeBiking 21:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ray Billingsley

edit

You should add Ray Billingsley to you list of notable alumni. He is the creator of the syndicated comic strip "Curtis" he was a fellow classmate of mine and graduated in 1975. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.70.129.69 (talk) 18:41, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

In order to do that we would need a reliable source that verifies that he attended this school. We could add that source to the Ray Billingsley article, and then we could add his name here. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:51, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alumni

edit

Alumni should have a category, Category:Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School alumni. I would do it, but i dont have the inclination to add this category to the long list. perhaps a dedicated editor would do this.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 04:24, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
