I found a reference to link the First battle of Sabine Pass and the Second Battle. My resolved issue was that there was the 1st Battle, where the Union side was the aggressor, victor, and occupier, and then the 2nd battle where they were the aggressor and lost. Added information concluding that the Union side abandoned Fort Sabine and Sabine Pass, then returned to blockade duty off-shore, thus the Confederates retook the areas.
