Talk:First Nations in Manitoba

Given the current content of the article I'm content with the renaming that has occurred, but I wanted to express my vision for all of the "Aboriginal peoples in _" articles. I see them evolving to be not just a list of Aboriginal communities in the province, territory, or region specified, but also having detailed content regarding the unique history of Aboriginal peoples in that area, as well as a focus on contemporary issues that relate most specifically to that area alone. For example, in Manitoba for contemporary issues this could include the Aboriginal Justice Implementation Commission [1]. Or for British Columbia it could be the landmark Nisga'a treaty. In the Canadian Arctic it could include content regarding the creation of Nunavut and the ongoing debate over the proposed Mackenzie Valley Pipeline. All of the above are contemporary issues only, and one can see how much could be written about the unique Aboriginal histories of each area as well. However until such time as the appropriate content is included I accept that the new name is the most accurate. Kurieeto 04:04, May 8, 2005 (UTC)
