Source of bricks

edit

Is there a source for the statement "Local legend claims that the brick and stone used in construction were sent out from Britain as ballast; in fact local brick yards and quarries supplied these materials"? In "Victoria & Its Remarkable Buildings" (Harbour Publishing 1996) p 325, Robin Ward says the granite blocks for Race Rocks came from Scotland and the brick was English. He refers to London's agreement, after requests from Governor Douglas and Captain Richards, to build two Imperial lights and to supply the materials. Because they agreed to doesn't mean they actually did I suppose and local legends can end up in what appear to be reliable sources. Is there a source for the claim that the bricks were local? Ward says that it was 12 years after construction that the walls of the tower were painted white to protect the structure from weather damage. --KenWalker | Talk 17:48, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

is the Fisgard Lighthouse the one in this 1906 pic?

edit

Been cruising the British Library collection in the Commons and found this File:Tug-of-war (HS85-10-17534).jpg from 1906.....this seems to be Esquimalt Harbour, that's a Monmouth-class cruiser, could that be the Fisgard Lighthouse at left, or is it not large enough?Skookum1 (talk) 18:46, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
