Talk:Fishing in the North Sea

Statement could be amplified to bring out implications

edit

Three years ago, I travelled through much of the coastal and Highlands areas of Scotland. The impact of over-fishing on the North Sea - largely by fishing vessles that were not Scottish in origin - was unmistakable and massive.

The article, as it now stands, contains the following sentence: "In recent decades, overfishing has left many fisheries unproductive, disturbing the marine food chain dynamics and costing jobs in the fishing industry."

This is truly an understatement, since the job loss has actually devastated Scottish coastal villages that had for centuries depended economically on fishing. The coast has been whole communities, in some cases. I feel the statement, above, could be amended to, legitimately, bring this out. (Might require another, additional citation - not sure.)

How about it?Joel Russ (talk) 22:31, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article should be renamed overfishing in the North Sea

edit

I was expecting information about where the fishing takes place, what type of vessels are used, what rules apply (particularly EU rules), and much more about the type of fishies that live in the region. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidvaughan0208 (talkcontribs) 17:57, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
