Talk:Fist (disambiguation)

dicdef

edit
  • The term used to describe the clenched hand when the fingers are curled into the palm and the thumb is retracted. This is typically used in unarmed combat, such as fist-fighting. See also Punch (strike).

This entry isn't mentioned at all in the hand article. It's clearly correct, factually. Can this become it's own article or should it be removed as a dicdef. Wiktionary does a good job with it: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fist Tedernst | talk 20:12, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • image needs to be replaced. its shows how to break your thumb when making a fist incorrectly. the thumb needs to be positioned at a 90 degree angle running parallel to your knuckles. extended at an odd angle as show will break your thumb in a fight.Palewook 15:00, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

political meaning

edit

sometimes, i see some people holding a fist into the air (e.g. in old videos), but i don't know its meaning. can someone explain?--80.218.247.52 (talk) 16:15, 3 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since a fist is used to describe anger/power, people use it to demonstrate displeasure with the government, or to show a rise in some other power. (Assumes from the title that you were asking about fist raising in protests) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.36.162.216 (talk) 03:08, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree that there should be some mentioning to the symbol of a fist, there's a particular design that is used in anarchist and related movements.

Found an existing article, Raised Fist. -- 75.183.7.184 (talk) 02:36, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fist as a Squad

edit

Wondering if anyone else has ever heard this usage before. Here is an example: "Sir, the enemy has infiltrated our defenses! 'Then send a fist of men at them!'" Saji Loupgarou (talk) 05:43, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here is an example of it in use. I think this enough to add it to the article. If anyone disagrees, please revert and we will discuss.
