What do the colors and figures on the flag (of Fr. Guiana) mean? Do they symbolize anything? Swannie 19:24, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whose flag? (POV issue)

edit

The Jan 2010 flag was adopted by the département, not the région. As "French Guiana" describes both, it is POV to describe this as the flag of French Guiana. Kevin McE (talk) 17:28, 20 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nonsensical first sentence

edit

The official flag of French Guiana, an overseas region and department of France located in South America, is the French flag. This first sentence of the article is nonsense. French Guiana flies its national flag, the flag of France, just like all the states of the United States and Australia and all the provinces of Canada fly their respective countries' national flags. Those states and provinces also have their own flags, which they fly in addition. If, in contrast, French Guiana doesn't have its own flag, then it doesn't have its own flag. The French flag is still its national flag, not it's own departmental flag. Largoplazo (talk) 18:43, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I suppose theoretically they could also use the flag as a departmental flag, but that would be unusual. The New Caledonia resolution may provide some guidance, the adopted flag is to be flown "ensemble...le drapeau national". (I cannot at quick notice find the more recent Martinique resolution.)
