This article has been placed under further protection from unregistered editors because it has been the subject of constant vandalism. This maybe partially due to the different views and beliefs of the political parties in Puerto Rico who like for the colors of the flag to reflect their ideologies. Sorry for any inconvenience which this may cause. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:31, 3 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

In the "Current Design" section, please change the translated English text "The adaptation of the Cuban flag with the colors inverted was suggested by the patriot Francisco Gonzalo Marín in a letter which he wrote from Jamaica. I made the proposition to various Puerto Rican patriots during a meeting at Chimney Hall and it was approved unanimously." TO "The adoption of the Cuban flag with inverted colors was suggested to me by the famous patriot Francisco Gonzalo Marín in a letter he wrote to me from Jamaica. I made the proposal to the Puerto Rican patriots who attended the meeting at Chimney Hall and it was approved unanimously.". This is a more precise translation than the current one. Thanks! black flag

edit

I was just visiting PR and found that an all-black rendition of the flag is a ubiquitous symbol of opposition to government corruption and other troubles. As someone who loves flags and graphic symbolism I was fascinated by this and will try to amass some citations to add here. PurpleChez (talk) 21:02, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

It looks like the black flag was painted by artists as a political statement, in response to the fiscal board oversight.[1] --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 21:12, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

correct! I added some info, with sources. I will upload my own photo of the door, but I'll have to re-learn how to do that... it's been a while.... PurpleChez (talk) 21:37, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
that's actually one of the sources I cited! Great minds google alike!!!! PurpleChez (talk) 21:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Should there be an American flag somewhere here?

edit

Should there be an American flag here as the article states that the Puerto Rican flag is flown alongside the American flag Kanto7 (talk) 10:04, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Kanto7: No, there shouldn't be. We don't fly flags on Wikipedia articles. We display them. Flags are not flown on Wikipedia. A link to the American flag is on the article. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 12:26, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Reverted changes as this is the correct original flag of Lares displayed at the history museum of the University of Puerto Rico"

edit

@Tektonson the file is displayed no less than three times on the page, it's okay to use an illustration instead of just reusing the same file constantly. NorthTension (talk) 04:27, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

So since you removed my message prior, @Tektonson could I ask why you did this and why you've reverted my attempt at not having the same three files uploaded on a page, even the illustration in the gallery section? NorthTension (talk) 12:01, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi!
Yes,
Sorry for the confusion.
Unfortunately, the “svg” (illustration/graphic) of the Lares flag you are referring to is not valid because it uses a blue color shade that is not historically accurate. There are only two original flags of Lares: one featuring light uranian blue and the second a dark navy blue. They are posted on Grito de Lares page on Wikipedia.
I’m still in the process of updating the page for the benefit of all, but I intend to make and attach a historically accurate “svg” (illustration/graphic) of the flag of Lares.
Thanks. Tektonson (talk) 12:30, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thank you. NorthTension (talk) 12:36, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Tektonson (talk) 13:22, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
So uh, how goes it? NorthTension (talk) 00:43, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Blue

edit

Might this help? Flag on 1905 postcard. Shows population # of 1905. See blue on this old postcard. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 18:34, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi!
This is gold.
It must be from between 1900-1920, based on official census statistics of Puerto Rico.
Thanks for sharing. I have incorporated it onto the page.
Thanks.
