High King ?
editHigh King of what?
High King of Ireland, dopey
the country had a federal system, with provincial kings ruling the four provinces and a High King ruling the nation. Until the Norman invasion of 1171, that is.

editThere's more than one Flaithbertach in Irish history, and the conventional way to write this bloke's name seems to be Flaithbertach mac Loingsig (thus distinguishing him from the other Flaithbertachs), as used in the RIA's history, the Oxford History of Ireland and by Frank Byrne. This seems to be uncontroversial, but I'll ask before changing anything. Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:34, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
