Te quiero
editSomebody reverted my edit, claiming that "te quiero" can mean either "I love you" or "I want you." The two problems with this assertion are that 1) "te quiero" does not carry the overt sexual overtones of the English "I want you" ("te deseo" does) 2) The song is obviously about love ("Y es que te quiero, woh-woh/Desde que te he conocido yo vivo tan feliz," "tú que me haces soñar que las estrellas llegan"). 20:21, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- I made the change and I am changing it back because I see significant problems with your reasoning:
- I am not "claiming" that "te queiro" can mean either, it is a FACT that it means both.
- Your reasoning, that "I want you" carries "sexual overtones", is not only subjective but irrelevant. I don't see "I want you" as being overtly sexual. However, I fail to see how either opinion matters considering wikipedia is not a place for opinions.
- You may see the song being "obviously about love" but I also think it is obviously about "wanting" to be with someone. But then again, those are just opinions and it doesn't change the FACT that "te quiero" also means "I want you."
- Your editorializing the meaning of "te quiero" to what you want it to mean in the context of the song is original research, at best. Please try to be objective and realize that just because you think "I want you" is sexual, it doesn't mean that others see it that way (or that it even matters) or that it changes the meaning of "te queiro." --Ektar (talk) 18:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Given the song's context, translating "te quiero" as "I want you" is bad translation. Any person who speaks both English and Spanish at a native level can tell you that "te quiero" is rarely used to mean "I want you". It is not a "fact" that "te quiero" means both; but it is a common mistake made by those with poor knowledge in Spanish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.224.13.4 (talk) 14:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
