Article merging
editThe original flyweight article is directed towards the sport of boxing, not mixed martial arts. The two weight classes pertain to two completely different sports and feature unique histories that do not in any way intertwine and are complete unrelated. The weight classes are only similar by name; by lumping the two articles together, you create a false sense of uniformity between the classes. In reality, there is no uniformity; for instance, there are many weight classes in boxing that are not even recognized in mainstream mixed martial arts. We've created these articles for mixed martial arts weight classes because there was a great deal of detail given to the sport by the state athletic commissions in regard to weight classes for mixed martial arts. This, combined with the unique history of weight classes in mixed martial arts (read Mixed martial arts weight classes for more information) should merit the creation and maintenence of articles for mixed martial arts weight classes. Additions of other champions
editPlease help me understand why the only champion listed is from Shooto? Especially when 6 of the "top 15" ranked Flyweights (by Sherdogs standards) in the world have contracts with Tachi Palace Fights. (Mamoru Yamaguchi, Ian McCall, Jussier da Silva, Darrell Montague, John Dodson, Ulysses Gomez) Which is just as many as Shooto has on the same list.

- First off, thanks for your response. That link you have sent me does allow me to understand why you dont add several different organizations Flyweight champs such as the change under IP 71.244.102.129 (which was mine b/c of me not signing in). Although it does seem to support the addition of the Tachi Palace Fights Flyweight champion, which IP address 198.185.241.254 (whoever that was) made that was recently undone. Tachi Palace really does have many of to top flyweights in the world, even though the rest of their divison talent does drop off dramatically. It is this reason I truely believe this page needs the TPF flyweight divison. Even if you would want to put Tachi Palace Fights under a title of "Minor Organizations" much like you did with the King of the Cage under your Super Heavyweight (MMA) page. I'm a fan of you pages, I like your work. However because of the lack of top organizations having flyweights weightclasses currently, many of the top 125-pounders are fighting in these "tier 2" companies. And I feel that this page can be better imporved to represent that. Again, I do look forwrd to hearing your response on this. Bhark85 (talk) 19:24, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure who's talking to who here... only Shooto is listed since WP:MMA or more specifially WP:WikiProject Mixed martial arts/MMA notability has come to the consensus that only the top tier promotions should be listed here. Although I would support Tachi Palace Fights and only Tachi Palace Fights for Minor Organizations here... as they do have the most active flyweight division outside of Japan.(Justinsane15 (talk) 05:08, 5 April 2011 (UTC))
