Talk:Foreign relations of Venezuela

heavily biased

edit

This is a rather heavily biased article favoring the policies of current Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Added the modifier "declared" to the first sentence- whereas the government of Venezuela may declare its objectives to be those listed, it may not be entirely the case in reality, and it is up to the reader to decide whether or not Venezuela is in accordance with its stated objectives after being carefully presented both sides of the issue. I'll try to update this later when I have time.--SZero 03:52, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Americentric:

edit

Why is the Venezuelan foreign relations page all about American attitudes towards Hugo Chávez!? Why does it have to include the USA at all? I'm sure there are lots of issues that could be discussed about Venezuelan international relations rather than just American hegemonic prejudices. Lets get real - some people need to read Wikipedias policy that articles should be written from a neutral point of view.--Tamatoa 12:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Iran/Zimbawe

There's vast literature on the Venezuela's recent ties with those two governments. -- 08:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of AP article

edit

An Associated Press article continues to be deleted from this page, "Venezuela's Chavez Says United States Must Explain Reaction To Coup", citing WP:RS. If the Associated Press is not a reliable source, what is? Travb (talk) 23:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a citation to Commondreams, which is not the AP. Feel free to provide the AP article.  MortonDevonshire  Yo  · 23:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Commondreams does not actually publish all of its own articles, it often publishes other articles by other news organizations. Please look at the article[1], it is from the "Associated Press". Do you have access to Lexis Nexis? Because I can't see any other organization which actually picked up this article. Would you like me to list all of the newspapers which picked up this story? I hope this clears up the situation.
This is the original cbs report: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/05/09/60minutes/main508510.shtml . “…The government of the United States…I believe that they really owe an explanation…to the people of the United States and also to us,” JRSP 00:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I replaced the reference to a real news source. Commondreams simply isn't a reliable source for news articles and there are plenty of reliable sources for noteworthy news. --Tbeatty 06:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

AP article

edit

Here are excerpts of the original AP article. What happens is that often news organization cut down, combine, or even don't carry the AP articles.

In this case, the AP article was pretty much ignored by most media organizations (this is not uncommon), but two newspapers picked up sections of the AP article:

Hope this helps. Signed Travb (talk) 00:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Venezuela-Canada relations

edit

Hello all! I've decided to add this part to this page because i have been unable to find anything concerning Canada's relationship with venezuela. It is important because as i am finding out. There are alot of things in common. Please don't hesitate to give me feed back. --99.230.112.15 (talk) 05:01, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Venezuela-Pakistan relations

edit

There is really nothing of value in the section. No citation and no other site to link. I think its best to remove this section instead of listing all the states that Venezuela has relations with. Lihaas (talk) 18:02, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Recentism

edit

This article seems to be about 50% focused on Hugo Chavez, which is seriously disproportionate for a country 190 years old. Perhaps the solution would be to create a WP:SPINOFF for Foreign relations of Venezuela under Hugo Chavez, while letting this article give proportionate weight to the overall history?
