Fort Chipewyan is a very peaceful place. Everyone knows everyone and it is so rich in history.I lived here for all my life and i never get tired of it. It's so rich with culture of my people(natives). But I so hope the government would consider making a road to our small community because it would help our economy and hopefully increase our population. The natural gas prices wouldn't be so high. I'm note posting this to complain about our nurses situation i'm just trying to make a suggestion that we can at least get the hell out of this town during the summer. Not everyone has the money for a boat or to pay $89 of a one way ticket to Mcmurray. If we have a road to smith than we would be able to participate with other communties in the north. We don't have plans flying in and out of smith like the way we fly back in forth to Mcmurray. The mcmurray road would have to take place sometime inthe future but right now my focus is on getting connected with the north. I so hope everyone reads this letter and please try to help our little community. If the goverment just turns our backs on us than he is a a.... Remeber we are voters too. Plus i might add that not all of us in the community are native. There white people here too. posted by Marissa Marten.

I agree with you that we do need to make a more regular route to our beautiful neighbours to the north. However because of our constant and never changing wet ground soil, it would not be likely that we can build a road to Fort Chip ( or Further). the cost and the safety respect would be to hard to overlook.

More to the point

edit

The article mentions that "The town population is made up of Cree First Nations,Chipewyan(Dene) First Nations and Metis People." I'm sure that there are also people of other races living there.64.56.134.12 (talk) 19:20, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Issues with Bias

edit

A recent edit has put in a lot of content into the introductory section, which should probably be in another part of the article. To make matters worse, it appears to be intended to attack the credibility of Dr. John O'Connor. Someone should review this and try to balance the piece. C4AS (talk) 21:32, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is now no mention of the health concerns of the community, Dr. John O'Connor, the recent publication by the Alberta Cancer Board on cancer rates in the region, nor the media coverage this matter has received. The absence of this topic in the article is certainly on purpose, and should be rectified. 158.143.109.30 (talk) 17:05, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tar Sands

edit

The effect of the tar sands on this community needs to be covered. People living there who depend on the Athabasca Lake, and thus the Athabasca River are being seriously harmed by the Tailings Pond (where the tar sands company Syncrude ″dumps 250,000 tons of liquid toxic waste″) which is placed next to the river. Cancer rates are abnormally high in this community, as well as mutations in the fish of Athabasca Lake. I am not suggesting any position environmentally or socially in mentioning these issues; these are important and defining qualities of Fort Chipewyan and simply should be mentioned in this encyclopedia.
