Date of original fort establishment
editThe article says Fort St. Philip originated during the Spanish period as Ft. San Felipe. But the info box gives a date of 1746, which was in fact during the (earlier) French period. [If it was originally a French fort, the earliest name would have been Fort Saint-Philippe or some such, assuming that the French were the ones who chose the namesake saint.]
It would make some sense that the French built a (second) fort on the east bank of the Mississippi River in the 18th century, because they had to abandon Fort De La Boulaye on the same bank in the early 1700s -- and in the meantime they had established New Orleans, on the east bank of the River.
At least one reference link was dead, so I'm not clear on how to verify the founding era, at the moment. I began editing this article because in the NRHP and NHL listings, the description column was blank for Fort St. Philip.
