DYK
editMike mentioned yesterday that the intention is to put this up for Did you know and I spotted the same info on Facebook. This needs to be done within a week of article creation (i.e. soon). Let me know if you need a hand with that. I can nominate if you wish but don't really want to steal the thunder of those who have put the effort in writing this article. - Thanks! I had no idea of the time restriction on DYK nominations. I'll work on a nomination and check with the page creator whether she wants to nominate or is happy for me to do it. --DrThneed (talk) 21:46, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- I've been holding off until the article got into a slightly better shape, but it looks like we're there now. So I reckon we nominate with a nice arresting hook like "…that a mining company wants to quarry the New Zealand Miocene fossil site Foulden Maar for pig food?" —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 22:33, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Sounds good Mike. Thanks to you both the page looking a lot better this morning! Do you want to nominate Mike? DrThneed (talk) 22:43, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- OK I just got through looking at the nomination template etc and I think that it's better if someone who has used it before does it!DrThneed (talk) 23:09, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

I had an attack of brave and nominated. I hope I did it right! I am assuming like pretty much everything else on Wikipedia things can be changed if I didn't...DrThneed (talk) 02:34, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- Good on you. You learn by doing. I cleaned up the reference a bit and added (pictured). —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 09:50, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Put a ref on the Etymology section and watch the NPOV for the mining section and I think it should get through. (Dushan Jugum (talk) 03:30, 19 May 2019 (UTC)).
Re-assessed Importance
editOtago University Press says this, in their blurb about a newly published book about the Foulden Maar:[1]
A paleontological site of international significance, Foulden Maar in Otago, New Zealand is home to an amazing record of life on Earth. Formed by a volcanic eruption 23 million years ago, the Maar’s undisturbed sedimentary layers are the resting places for countless rare, well-preserved fossils. The site is unsurpassed in the Southern Hemisphere as a scientific record of changing life and ecosystems at the beginning of the Miocene.
.I have re-assessed the article Importance as High, (based on the Wikproject importance scales) for Paleaontology, New Zealand, and Protected areas.--Marshelec (talk) 04:29, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- Marshelec, in general, it's not advisable to assess importance for projects that you aren't an active member of. I can't see anyone objecting to your assessments; just saying that it's best to leave importance to project members. This restriction doesn't apply to class, as that should match across projects (noting that some projects don't use C-class). Schwede66 19:27, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
