Some notes about the disaster of 1888
editi) The only evidence that the "tramps" existed came from the testimony of the conductor Chubback (also sometimes rendered Chubbuck) and the brakeman Orendorff from the goods train.
ii) Chubback and Orendorff testified that they had themselves uncoupled the 5 wagons involved in the disaster on a hillside. Orendorff stated he'd been directed to set the air brakes and had done so. He didn't mention setting the hand brakes. Many air brakes in use at that time weren't fail safe and would cease to function if a leak occurred. Accidents relating to improper use of brakes, of which a typical railroader would encounter a bewildering variety during his career, were very common.
iii) Chubback and Orendorff then left the wagons unattended while some stock cars were moved to a siding, the objective of the halt.
iv) A "tramp" then supposedly asked Chubback where the uncoupled cars were -- by Chubback's own testimony, this was the prime suspect in the whole affair -- and they set off in pursuit of the loose wagons.
v) If it's taken into account however that the only living witnesses to the tramp theory would otherwise have been on the hook -- Chubback and Orendorff themselves who'd uncoupled the wagons and left them unattended -- then another theory for the disaster becomes obvious.
vi) The Santa Fe RR promptly undertook to pay for all damages inflicted, a very unusual move. 81.31.212.99 (talk) 19:23, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Andrea Serrano
editThis was a case that made some (minor headlines) a couple months ago. 31 year old Fountain woman Andrea Serrano was impregnated by a 13 year old boy and didn't get prison time for it. Is this notable enough to include in this page? NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 02:40, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
