editThe Four cardinal principles were stated by Deng Xiaoping in 1979 and are the four issues for which debate was not and is allowed within the People's Republic of China.
- does this sentence sound confusing to anyone else but me?
I think it's just missing a "not", as in "was not and is not...", but I'm not enough of a Sinophile to know for sure. --LDC
Considering the four principles are constitutional basis of the political definition of PRC, so I think there is a "not" missing. However, does it really make any sense to put the sentence "...for which debate was not and is [not] allowed within the PRC"? If it's just to emphasize the importance and solidity and indubitability, I think it's better to just state that the four principles are now highlighted both in the constitution of PRC and the CPC. 128.141.254.70 (talk) 21:06, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
