editYou’ve made huge progress here. Focusing on this first event in 1712 is a great idea.
1) Lay out the structure of your article or the new chunks of an old article with an Introduction and titles for the parts you want to add or rewrite
I can see how the article will be structured and the outline you have imbedded in here shows how much work you’ve done on the very messy topic of the Fox Wars.
2) Added new, high-quality sources (books, articles, authoritative websites)
As you add more citations to the paragraphs here, look for more journal articles about specifically about the massacre, as well as books and articles about the Fox in general. You could dig into the bibliographies in the articles books you already have. But the sources you’ve laid in already are all really solid. Excellent work on this piece, but keep looking for more good articles.
Older book that we have and is online might have some leads: R. David Edmunds and Peyser, Joseph L. The Fox Wars : The Mesquakie Challenge to New France Norman: U of Oklahoma, 1993.
3. Written 50-60% of what you hope to add
Absolutely did this!! I can see exactly where you are going and that parts you hope to fill in. At some point, you might have to decide to focus on finishing some sections rather than finishing the whole thing. You can leave some work other people to do later.
4) Thinking about linking as opposed to creating too much background
Here is where you might need to consider how much background people can get from other Wikipedia articles. How much history of the various other Native nations in the region do you need?
5) Started to clean up a few paragraphs
You can decide whether you want to do this on the mainspace or in your sandbox, but the clean up and fixing spelling and writing errors takes a while. The next step is adding some maps and images.
