Dr. U (and anyone else) - Do you have a reference for the fact these are decaploid? I don't doubt it...actually I'd just about concluded that 'Lipstick' was before I read this page, but the patent for 'Pink Panda' calls it a "chromosome subsitution" line, which is 98% Fragaria in its genomic composition. I find this a little hard to believe, and patents are notoriously bad sources for science info, but I'm just curious where this info came from.
Also, does anyone know about the ornamental strawberry 'Wildfire'? I've seen occasional references to it alongside 'Lipstick' and 'Pink Panda', but I've never been able to find out more than that it has red/pink flowers, but no idea whether this is also a hybrid with Potentilla Elakazal 01:20, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know about 'Wildfire', but the chromosome number information is in the Mabberley reference (not decaploid but heptaploid!), with more information than quoted on this page. It is not inconsistent with these being chromosome substitution lines, or chromosome addition or subtraction lines, since they are derived from backcrosses with Fragaria. The code of nomenclature takes a convenient approach and considers them all to be hybrids, even after many generations of backcrossing. Nadiatalent (talk) 15:04, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Marsh Cinquefoil is not in Potentilla anymore
editThe new genus, Comarum, is closer to Fragaria than to Potentilla sensu stricto. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 22:48, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Comarum is a very old genus, restored to currency. Nadiatalent (talk) 15:04, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Page moved
editMoved the page and moved this talk page. Nadiatalent (talk) 20:41, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for updating the page, Nadia. Just be sure to move pages in the future with the move tab at the top of the page instead of copying and pasting. Wikipedia publishes contributions under the Creative Commons licenses, which require a full history of contributions to the collective work. A copy and paste move separates earlier contributions from the page at its current location, so I had to complete a page history merge. If you're ever unable to move a page for reasons of multiple edits at the target page, you can request the move at WP:RM or feel free to ask me on my talk page if its an uncontroversial move. Great work you've been doing here. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, especially for the licensing explanation which explains the existence of such complexity. I'll keep trying to learn to get page moves to work for me. Nadiatalent (talk) 17:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
"Inappropriate tone" tag
editThe tone tag for this page indicates that suggestions about how to improve this article can be found on the talk page. Does anyone have any suggestions of that nature? Nadiatalent (talk) 15:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Rationale behind capitalization?
editIs there a reason that "RED RUBY" and "PINK PANDA" are written the way they are?
