edit"...returning to take up the career of arms" - did he return specifically for it or did it just happen after his return? Was he a soldier, did he belong to some kind of support personnel, or was he an officer? Could it be somehow more vague? And there is not a single source, not even for his portrait - come on, someone has to know it, how many books with his pictures are there?
