Pertinence
editMuch of the information on Shaka Zulu, though interesting, is not directly related to Farewell's life.
Further, couldn't there be more detail on Farewell? What part did he play in the creation of the British Empire mentioned early in the article (being two years after the Battle of Trafalgar it could not be referring to his expedition to meet Shaka)? Was Farewell ever married and, if so, to whom? Who exactly was responsible for the ambush that resulted in his death and what was the general disturbance surrounding it?
- Removed irrelevant details about Shaka. Remainder of above comments still germane. Student7 (talk) 19:24, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Dubious sourcing and a glaring error re: Gqoki Hill claim
editThe description of Farewell's voyage to Natal and his dealings with Shaka Zulu sound more like they were based on the 1980s miniseries "Shaka Zulu" instead of any book. Also, Farewell was not even in Natal in 1818, when Shaka fought the battle of Gqoki Hill.TH1980 (talk) 14:27, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- This should be corrected to reality, if available. We don't want to be copying a film! Not all sources agree on some things. I don't have a bio of Farewell available. Student7 (talk) 19:04, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
- Donald Morris's book "The Washing of The Spears", plus two South African history articles I have located that discuss Farewell, can help correct this entry. Other users with access to good sources about Farewell are encouraged to pitch in and help bring this article up to snuff in a collaborative, constructive manner.TH1980 (talk) 12:57, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
Change "Mission to Natal" to "Cape Colony and Natal"?
editSince Farewell's time in South Africa began in Cape Colony, would it not be better to change "Mission to Natal" to "Cape Colony and Natal"?TH1980 (talk) 23:21, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I went and made the change. This new title also reflects how Farewell went to South Africa in the name of trade, not a military mission.TH1980 (talk) 01:12, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
