extent of NWT
editRe this line:
- At the time the Northwest Territories were brought under the jurisdiction of the Government of Canada, 47% of the non-Native population spoke French. French permeated every aspect of life in the Territories, from commerce to education.
The meaning of that first line as I read it would be 1867, when Rupert's Land and the North-Western Territory were transferred to the Dominion of Canada as a sort of birthday gift for Confederation (and to give Canada the economic potential and reosurces the Canadas lacked on their own). So unless another date is meant, the line should say that at the time this was all of the cismontane West as well as the Arctic/Subarctic territory the NWT is now. If it's a later time that should be specified, as otherwise the paragraph is very misleading.Skookum1 (talk) 05:04, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
