GA failed

edit

In short, the article was too short for a GA. There were only 3.4k on main body text and it was not comprehensive as could be expected given in info out there, especially given that he played 200+ games and appears to be quite well known given that is in a few people's lists for being the most notorious and so forth.

  • This can be rectified by fully utilising the refs you already have at your disposal. One of the bios you used has itself got 6.5k of main text, so you should be able to manage 6.5k on main text here at least
  • Aston Villa and Man U are big clubs. Surely there are some books out there that give us more info. Or even a Man U web porfile? He played for MU for 6 years and 140 matches, surely there is more to say than exactly that
    • Can you expand on which injuries he suffered the most? which were the most major?

References

  • You need to fill these out properly. Dates, author publisher, etc. See Dinesh Karthik for an example
  • Watford section is unsourced

Lead

  • Is supposed to recap the article. At the moment it is one sentence and asserts his playing style, which is not expanded upon below. Lead needs to be expanded.

POV/Weasel

  • Needs to explain the incidents rather than just say that some incident was controversial.

The Original colourised picture was posted by me. It came from my personal family history collection (Mrs Barson is a distant cousin). The picture was hand painted and reproduced as a cigarette card. The date of death, which i contributed originally, but was then removed and I have added again comes from Mr Barson's death certificate! —Preceding unsigned comment added by AlwynapHuw (talkcontribs) 04:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA review

edit

The article has come a long way since the last review. I am placing the article on hold until a few concerns can be dealt with.

  • Images:They all need sourcing information. Where did they come from?
    • Done except the main image as i cant find where its from anywhere? But seen as its from Villa the tag it has fits?
  • Section positions. Can you move honours to the bottom of the page and move coaching career under the playing career sections. Then have the personal life under that. (So :Club > International > Coaching > Personal life > Honours)
    • Done
  • In the Barnsley section. Split the second sentence at evident. It is a run-on sentence that needs to be split.
    • Done
    • Comma after expenses
      • Done
  • See WP:DASH, words such as run-in need only a hyphen, not an ndash. The scores are fine with the ndash by the way.
    • Done
  • In the Aston Villa section:remove "the" from Birmingham despite the Villa's insistence.
    • Done
  • You need specific references for all the quotes in the text.
  • Personal life section:I live in Birmingham, i think you mean Winson Green.
    • Done

Please address these matters soon and then leave a note here or on my talk page showing how they have been resolved. After 48 hours the article should be reviewed again. If these issues are not addressed within 7 days, the article may be failed without further notice. Thank you for your work so far. Make sure all quotes are cited. Off to work now so will finish the rest when I get in. Thanks again Everlast1910 10:04, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
All the points done I think Everlast1910 16:32, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not quite, see my reply about the image and the refs. Woodym555 16:56, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done the image not sure what you mean about the refs? Everlast1910 17:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, all points addressed, now meets the GA criteria. Woodym555 21:14, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

1921 header?

edit

I have removed the following from the article as the dates do not make sense. As Barson only signed for United in 1922, he obviously could not have scored for them in 1921, not least against Aston Villa, as he was playing for Villa at the time:

One of these goals, against Aston Villa on 26 December 1921, was described by contemporary accounts as a candidate for the longest-distance header ever scored.<ref name="azmanc">{{cite book |last=Brandon |first=Derek |title=A–Z of Manchester Football: 100 Years of Rivalry |publisher=Boondoggle |location=London |year=1978}}</ref>

Barson did score for United against Villa in the following games: September 2nd 1925 at Old Trafford (3-0) & October 2nd 1926 at Old Trafford (2-1).Decorativeedison (talk) 20:14, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
