Date anomaly

edit

If FD was born in 1932 and started work at 16, that would have been in 1948, so he cannot have decided "before in 1946...to pursue an ambition to become a champion racing cyclist".

Did he leave school at 14? 89.207.1.20 (talk) 13:28, 8 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think that would have been possible then. Cartainly in the mid-1930s by mother left school at 14. But the article says he left school at 16, so there's a discrepancy. (I've just read his obituary in the Daily Telegraph, which was what brought me here.) JH (talk page) 09:08, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Family

edit

I am intrigued by his surname Huline-Dickens. His grandfather completed the 1911 census using just Huline, no mention of Dickens but his great grandfather used Huline Dickens, not double barrelled. They were consistently Dickens before that. The obits refer to links to the circus family of Huline, but I can't see any such link. I wondered if it was the Huline family wanting to connect to the famous Dickens, rather than the other way round.
