Middle name
editGoing through old revisions and Google searches, it appears the addition of "Delano" as his middle name came from this edit by an IP and re-added by the same IP here, and because there was already a reference for his full name, other editors/readers assumed this must be correct. It's not his middle name, and vandalism on this page stood for 10 years without anyone checking it out. Eagles 24/7 (C) 00:41, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- Lifelong fan of Frank Gore's NFL career checking in here. Many people all across the internet have corroborated that Delano is his middle name (if you bothered to do a search). Even though it was not cited in 2008 that could've just been due to the IP unable to provide a source at that time. The rules for Wikipedia were not as stringent as they are now with the proliferation of credibility monitors. I lived briefly in San Francisco from 2004-2008 and during an autograph signing I went to with my parents in 2007 Frank said his middle name was Delano. Did it ever occur to you that it stood for 10 years because it was right until you took it upon yourself to change it without providing a source to confirm otherwise? Here is even an ESPN employee quoting his full name: https://twitter.com/PabloTorre/status/1026874054257651714 /u/Bizzle26 22:00 30 September 2019 (EST) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bizzle26 (talk • contribs)
- We bothered to do a search. And sure, it occurs to us that some things remain on WP for a long time because they are true. But we just don’t go by what occurs to us, or what someone told us once, or what an ESPN employee said when he may have even been making fun of us a little. It's okay if it's true and we just can’t find appropriate reliable sources (NNDB is not one) to include it on WP. That outcome is better than including it without references that qualify as RSs. Is this still not enough to allow Franklin Delano Gore to appear on his Wikipedia page? These are all credible verified Twitter accounts of professionals working in the NFL industry tweeting Franklin Delano Gore over several years (be it coverage or the official accounts of NFL content providers). As a yearly donor to this free encyclopedia I am now contemplating writing to Wikipedia's head office concerning you exploiting your clout on Wikipedia to alter NFL pages with potential bias as an Eagles fan. Please stop the excessive policing and harassment of Frank's page to the detriment of his loyal fans. I have little cousins who have grown up yelling Franklin Delano Gore every time he scores on Sunday.

- Frank Gore is a Philadelphia Eagles legend, I'm not sure what you're getting at by saying I'm biased in that regard. And no, unfortunately, a bunch of people on Twitter looking at his Wikipedia page still does not count as reliable sources, and Wikipedia's biographies of living people policy is very strict about this kind of stuff. I am just as frustrated as you are, I would love to find a credible source for his middle name and include it back in this article. Feel free to contact the Wikimedia Foundation about your concerns, but I'd first like to point you to other avenues if you are not satisfied with the discussion here. The NFL WikiProject talk page should be the next step in escalating an NFL-related content dispute, and there are many editors there who might not be watching this page who would be glad to chime in. If you believe that as a volunteer contributor I am using excessive clout and disrupting an article, you may report my actions using dispute resolution or going straight to the administrator's incidents noticeboard where many administrators can help you out. Copyright violation under Charitable work section
editDoes someone mind explaining or summarizing what the copyright violation was? We cannot cite or share stuff from the website of a NFL team because they have a license on it? If I found a news outlet covering the same story and quotes would that be alright? Bizzle26 (talk 12:37, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Bizzle26: You directly copied and pasted text from an article, which is a copyright violation and plagiarism. Eagles 24/7 (C) 15:43, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
Can a news story video interviewing Frank Gore be cited?
editSomeone uploaded a news story and interview on Youtube that a local station did with Gore in 2000 during his senior year of high school. There's some quotable information said by him I'd wish to include in his Wiki page. Are we allowed to cite something like that as a source? Bizzle26 (talk 21:33, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Bizzle26: Yes, you can cite interviews on YouTube as long as the person who uploaded it was legally authorized to do so (i.e. an interview on NFL Network uploaded by the official NFL YouTube account). You can use Template:Cite interview to format the reference. Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:50, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Going to quick-fail this nomination, as the nominator has never edited the article. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 23:12, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
It is in decent shape otherwise, mainly because Red Director has been a significant contributor. If Red Director decided to nominate the article, it would be worth giving a more in-depth review. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 23:12, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
As of now...
- Some sections have too many short paragraphs (e.g. 2006 and 2008)
- Some sections have the opposite problem and are just one big paragraph (e.g. 2016 and 2017)
- Some sections resemble WP:PROSELINE a bit too much: On 1 January, Gore did this. On 2 February, he did that. On 3 March, Gore did something else. (e.g. 2004; and the lead suffers a bit from this problem as well)
- The personal life section could be re-worked so that it focuses more on Gore himself instead of the other players mentioned. There is also a little bit too much detail on the other players that could be presented more concisely. Given Gore's age, I would guess there would be more material on Gore himself to include in this section. Right now, there is really only the charitable work outside of his family. For the formatting, the quotes shouldn't italicized.
- You could add a "Playing style" section.
- As Gore has played a lot of seasons, he could have a "Legacy" section (something like the "Career awards and highlights" section, but as prose).
