FBI file
editThe FBI file linked in the External links section was removed for being "unreliable." Note that the files posted includes the FOIA release letter from the FBI, documenting its origins. Also, removing material solely because it's on the Internet Archive has never been Wikipedia policy nor has it, AFAIK, been considered too unreliable for WIkipedia. In fact, they made special code and bots to better interface with the Internet Archive. TheMikeBest (talk) 19:48, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
"...falsely..."
editConcerning the allegation of Davis being Obama's father, the word-choice of "falsely" (which at least one editor insists upon maintaining (without quotation marks) after the word "claimed") is not only POV, but potentially libelous in that it suggests that Gilbert is deliberately lying (rather than, say, merely erroneous). An unproven allegation is not necessarily a false one. Also note that the word "false" does not appear in the cited source (which is arguably the most partisan and least reliable one available).--Froglich (talk) 21:46, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for starting a discussion, although best not edit war while discussing. Is Davis Obama's father? Yes? No? It's a conspiracy theory. Davis is not Obama's father. This is one of the many racially-tinged conspiracy theories circling around, and per WP:BLP we cannot include them in any discussion of living people without noting as much. If we're not going to say that the claim is false we can't give credence to the claim by including it at all. BTW, if you check the talk page and any archives here I'm sure you'll find some discussion on this. - Wikidemon (talk) 23:27, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- The circumstantial evidence is pretty dambing;[1][2] Obama looks like nothing like his ostensible Kenyan father, while being the spittin' image of Davis. Malik Obama says as much.[3] --Froglich (talk) 02:51, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, so you're a nutcase conspiracy theorist. Wikipedia isn't the place for that idiocy. - Wikidemon (talk) 05:14, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Watergate was a conspiracy. So was gun walker. They're nothing new, you know. Regards this one, I'm in good company with the President's own half-brother, and I'll leave it to everyone to determine whether Malik sounds like an irrational "idiot" in his video conversation with Gilbert (linked previous reply).--Froglich (talk) 06:02, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Since you insist on edit warring over this, I've brought the issue, and your behavior, up to WP:BLP/N. Assuming they find that it is indeed a BLP issue to uncritically mention fringe conspiracy theories about Obama's parentage without also saying that they are false, that ends the discussion. If not a BLP issue we can discuss what on earth what somebody else's false claim has to do with Frank Marshall Davis. - Wikidemon (talk) 06:14, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
The real point is that a claim that Davis is Obama's father is WP:FRINGE nutwingery. Per WP:ONEWAY, it is ok to discuss the absurdities at Dreams from My Real Father, but promoting the nonsense in other articles is not permitted. That is regardless of the WP:BLP issue. Johnuniq (talk) 06:18, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
- How is the term "conspiracy theory" applicable to this issue. A conspiracy theory is that some group of persons conspired to do some evil. Who are the alleged conspirators? What is the evil allegedly done? Take 911: a conspiracy theory would be that 5 CIA men conspired to destroy the Twin Towers (the evil). The production of a baby by a man & a woman is not generally considered an evil. There is only one alleged man involved in the production of a baby, not a group of men. So I fail to see how the slur word "conspiracy" theory is relevant to the issue. Also, I fail to see how throwing out another slur word "nutwingery" establishes the falsity of a claim. I also fail to see how BLP is a significant issue, unless you maintain that the old stigma of being born out of wedlock still exists (which is does not). BTW, Is anybody concerned about BLP violations in the article on Donald Trump? (PeacePeace (talk) 03:17, 23 April 2019 (UTC))

Just Google Frank Marshall Davis. You'll see he's an obscure figure, only notable for the fact many are investigating whether he's Obama's real father. How is it, then, that there isn't any content regarding the parentage question in the article???? This article seems like a total mainstream media liberal whitewash.
