Animals

Both Futurama and Simpsons commentaries have frequently suggested that Welker is the go-to guy for voicing any type of animal in animation. This seems like a notable thing that should be included; a cite can probably be found. TheHYPO (talk) 17:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Welker is currently credited as the voice of George on the PBS children's series Curious George. This credit should be included in the article. Jmvannoy (talk) 13:15, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Although not the household name that Mel Blanc was, Welker is roughly the modern day equivalent, he voices everything. It used to be Don Messick, but Don passed in 1997 unfortunately. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (Talk) 15:23, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Hightest grossing actor

Regarding this statement: "Welker is listed as number one on the "All Time Top 100 Stars at the Box Office" list by the film website The Numbers, not as a box office draw, but in terms of the total revenue generated by the films he has participated in."

This is certainly correct, in that The Numbers *does* say that he's the highest grossing actor. However, their selection of movies included for each actor is laughably incomplete, to the extent that any statistics they give are demonstratively incorrect. As a quick example, they list Christopher Lee as having only been in 27 movies (less than a tenth his true total), and don't include Return of the King in the list (a rather mainstream omission), despite including the first two movies in the series.

I am suggesting that this line - which gives misleading information - be removed from the entry. Are there any complaints?

I concur. It's completely misleading. It's like Six Degrees of Separation from 6 Billion Dollars. By this standard, you could find many, many character actors who simply happened to be in major blockbusters. A bit player who did voices or sound effects on a movie gets equal credit with the bankable star that the studios built the whole movie around. I agree. If you want a more reliable list, then look at the one from BoxOfficeMojo. They don't count bit players and Welker is not even on the list.--Maitch (talk) 08:54, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

The statement is not misleading, and neither is the information. If that website takes into account every role (as opposed to only taking into account those that are starring roles), and if, given that information, Frank Welker had appeared in films that had grossed the highest amount, then saying such would not be misleading. If it only took into account Welker's such roles and did not take into account such roles of other actors, then the information would be misleading. However, having said that, if the site contained incomplete information to make such a claim, then it is considered unreliable and was correctly removed from the article.  Chickenmonkey  09:56, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Late to the party but the problem with these lists is that exact box office of lots of films isn't publically known. There probably is (or was) only 27 Christopher Lee films with easily avaliable box office figures - I've never seen solid figures for much of Hammer's output for example because they were largely sold on to all sorts of distributors. If this list is inherently flawed, then we shouldn't be using it. There are plenty of unique facts to use about Welker that we don't need to introduce questionable sources. Speaking of which, I have his autograph on an animation cell along with Heather North and BJ Ward (Daphne and Velma from Scooby Doo) that I should scan and upload to Commons. It's the only thing in existence with all three of their autographs along with Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera, and Iwao Takamoto. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy...
