Honorary doctorate
editTimmermans was recently presented with an honorary doctorate by Maastricht University. Is this relevant enough to add to the page? See for example also Jimmy_Wales#Honors.2C_awards_and_positions. Talk2chun (talk) 15:06, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Vacuous
editI came here to find out what Timmermans' opinions are on matters of politics and international affairs. Out of luck - zip, nada. However there is a detailed list of the medals that have been attached to his chest. WP:UNDUE, anyone? This is the EU commissioner, remember, that backed Rajoy in suspending the Catalan Parliament, saying: "Human rights depend on Rule of law" (but not the converse). Timmermans is EU commissioner for both. MrDemeanour (talk) 16:30, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
- Not easy to improve and expand. Translation from the Dutch version will help only a bit. The quote about human rights can go into wikiquote. Andries (talk) 08:11, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- An overview of his opinions does not exist in Dutch reputable media, I think. Though he was elected in the parliament, he was then just a number on the list of the PvdA and not a well known politician. Andries (talk) 19:39, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
Nordstram 2
editTimmersmans, as Commissioner of the EU, said in 2021 that NORDSTREAM 2, has no threat to security in Europe! And today in the program AnneWill he speaks of support for Ukraine, although the years as a minister in the Netherlands and in the EU had taken measures that indirectly led to this war in Ukraine. The Netherlands are on board with the construction of Nordsteam 1 and 2. And as EU Commissioner, he indifferently disregarded Ukrainian, Polish and Baltic concerns. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.117.95.120 (talk) 01:51, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Is he still First VP?
editThe page says that Timmermans has been First Vice President of the Commission since 2014 (Juncker Commission). His bio on the Commission website, however, only lists him as First VP for 2014-2019; since 2019 he is listed as "European Commission Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal" (so no first VP) - if I recall correctly the VP hierarchy was a bit of an issue during the formation of the von der Leyen Commission in 2019. Should this be changed? JorisEnter (talk) 11:50, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, he is no longer First VP as that position was abolished under Von der Leyen. You are correct; this was outdated info that hasn't been changed since the 2019 updates of this article with his current position. As mentioned in his bio and on the Commissioners webpage, the hierarchy is as follows: 1 President, 3 Executive Vice-Presidents (including Timmermans), 5 Vice-Presidents (including the High Representative, ex-officio), and then the remaining Commissioners for a total of 27 members.
- This is incorrectly mentioned on other Wikipedia articles as well, so I'll try to fix those as well. SabasNL (talk) 12:05, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
