Why is this band considered indie rock? All but (i think) a 15 minute ep was released on Sony.

Why is there no discussion of their live performances...? 19 february 2006

Please note the single "Do you want to" peaked in US Modern Rock chart at #4 not #20. http://modernrock.com/charts/

Their song "Do You Want To" is to be used as the ending theme for the upcoming Japanese anime Paradise Kiss. [1] 157.228.115.222 12:48, 26 September 2005 (UTC) GracieLizzie Mon, Sep 26, 2005 13:48 BST

When is the chart position for the fallen/Lindsey Wells going to be known?

How does the person who wrote t know outsiders is the next single?

They performed it and bands don't generally perform song that people won't get to know.

That iis not evidence; and as much I personally would prefer outsiders as the next single, FF.org points to Eleanor put your boots on.

Eleanor put your boots on is their next single. It says so on the official sit and it's out on July 17th. I'm very glad it's a great song!!!!!!

Style

This article does not cover Franz Ferdinand's style in much detail at all. Perhaps a section on it should be added?PierceG 20:22, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Billboard 200

Someone edited the article to claim that the new album is at #8 on the US (Billboard 200) chart.. but it's not listed on billboard.com yet: [2]. Could someone cite this? Rhobite 21:31, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Michael

It appears in the song Michael there is some background noise that is inaudible. It occurs between 1:34 and 1:37. It sounds like something being played backwards. Can someone look into this? Yanksox 03:04, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

I read on songfacts.com that there is in fact a subliminal messagge, which says: " Call your mother, she's worried about you". I don't know if this is a reliable source so I'm waiting for Kapranos to confirm this. Lathrop1885 00:57, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Sounds like 'Spagg-heti-os... ravioli'. Alec McEnemin 16:20, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Franz Ferdinand.org gives "Call your mother, she's worried about you" as well... smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 17:11, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Members

Can anyone delete that disgusting thing someone put under 'Members'. I've tried, but I can't find where they put it in. Whoever did it needs to get a life. This is not Myspace or a personal blog!

Yeah! It's gone! Thank you!

Too Positive?

This article seems very positive, maybe some alternative viewpoints on the subject. 80.6.13.116 12:44, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

What would you suggest adding? It seems pretty NPOV. smurrayinchester Merry Christmas!(User), (Go Carolling) 20:42, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Nationality

It was highly illogical to compartmentalise the band as 'Scottish', given that three of the band members were born in 'England'. If one must compartmentalise the band, I suggest the compartment be 'Anglo-Scottish/Bavarian-Greek'. That or British; either one is fine with me. Bastin8 00:45, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. They have all lived in Scotland for the main part of their lives, they all call themselves Scots, they all live in Glasgow and the band was formed in Scotland. What's more, everyone knows them as a Scottish music group; they are in that category. Just because they weren't all born in Scotland doesn't mean they can't be considered Scottish. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Alec McEnemin (talk • contribs) .

The trouble with using the word 'Scottish' is that it implies that the band members are Scottish. They fall into the British Music genre, and I feel the band would be pretty similar had it formed in Belfast, Cardiff, Manchester or anywhere else in the UK. The band was however formed in Scotland, and I think that this fact is important to acknowledge, just not with such a sweeping statement. Take a look a the similar Scottish band, Snow Patrol. Although they formed in Scotland, the article also acknowledges the UK and Northern Ireland. Sorry. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 20:10, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

True, but at the same time half of U2's members were born in England, yet they are described as an Irish band and are even in the International category at the Brit Awards. Franz Ferdinand are and always will be considered a Scottish band. Let's run thorugh the members and rate their Scottishness. Alex Kapranos (the man who got the group together) moved to Scotland when he was eight, meaning he's lived in Scotland for 26 years. Paul Thomson's undoubtedly a Scot. Robert Hardy and Nick McCarthy have only lived in Scotland for eight years but both have a Scottish background. Calling them a British band is not presice enough and as they are more Scottish than anything else, that's how I believe they should be described.

Fair enough then. I guess they are Scottish, seeing as how I suppose they (unlike Snow Patrol, the example I gave above) haven't moved out of Scotland. I don't mind the wording. It was mainly just because they are considered one of the main bands of 'New Britpop', but I suppose the rest of the articles makes this clear. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 20:41, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Why is British nationality not 'precise enough'? This is stupid compartmentalising that bears no resemblance to the actualities. The fact is that they aren't all 'Scottish', and calling them 'British' does not detract, given that the very opening sentence also states that the band comes from Glasgow.
I disagree with the existing Snow Patrol description, as Snow Patrol is clearly not definitely Northern Irish or Scottish. Calling them Northern Irish denies their Scottish foundation. When in doubt, go with the undeniable fact that all members of both Snow Patrol and Franz Ferdinand are British citizens, rather than demanding that they be compartmentalised against the close links that the bands have to Scotland and England respectively.
The U2 analogy is not apt, since the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom are different countries; with regards to Brits classification, a decision must be made between calling them British or foreign. No call must be made between 'British' and 'Scottish', since they don't contradict one another. However, the preference of the term 'Scottish' over 'British' implies that the band has no roots in the rest of the United Kingdom, which is entirely incorrect. This isn't about the balance of nationalities, but the reasonable doubt, which is very much in evidence. Bastin8 21:01, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Similiar Bands?

Is anyone going to fill in this section? I commented it out in the source for now until there ARE some similiar bands listed. --SoWhy 23:47, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Sexuality

I head all these guys are homosexual, and given the lyrics of Michael that doesn't seem like a strange thing to say. However, the sexuality of the band members in not mentioned in the article, nor in any of their own wiki pages. Can someone please comment?Nambio 03:36, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

You asked for comments. If you have evidence for this than add it with a reference, although If they don't make a big deal about it and it doesn't relate to their music, I'm not sure why it is particuarly relevant. —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 03:40, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Actually you will find on every other page relating to a major music act that the page is not just about their music. Similar to movie stars. Please point me to a major hollywood star's page, or major music act's page, which does not include extra tidbits such as gossip, personal life, famous incidents, etc. In this case, if, indeed, they are all gay, it would be quite possibly the only major international band made up entirely of homosexuals. I think that is worth mention, if true.Nambio 02:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
All homosexual!? The drummer has a wife named Esther and the leadman has a steady girlfriend. 'Eleaner, Put You Boots Back On' is wrote for/about her! I'm pretty sure they are not the only major international band made up of entirely homosexuals!
What a bunch of fags singing about that Michael dude then. "Michael, stick your dick up my bum / Michael, I really want to see you cum". --130.216.191.184 00:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
They're not gay. The song Michael is written about their bisexual friend (who's actually called Michael), who got drunk and was dancing without caution. The song is not at all about any of the band members.
I'd really love to know where you got, "Michael, stick your dick up my bum / Michael, I really want to see you cum" please could you tell me because i've never heard that in the live or recorded versions.

They're all straight.Alec McEnemin 21:16, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Good God I am so relieved. But I knew one of the memebers of Franz Ferdinand has a wife, as well as Eleanor. Arie Riswandy

Although i don't think they are gay why the hell would straight guys sing "i blew him before you"? (Do You Want To) i know that the song Michael isn't about them but not too many straight guys i know would sing it. But i still don't think that they're gay.

I think that the lead guitarist is married too. In some of the pictures he definitely has a wedding ring on anyway. I don't see that it matters whether they're gay or not really. They do good music and that's that.

What the hell is Thor?

"Thor is even better"

"thor" is not in the article. what the hell are you talking about?

Darts of Pleasure

Would it really make sense to include that in the singles section for the Franz Ferdinand album since it really was an EP?

The Us was an EP, not the British.

Single Art

I dont know how...so can someone put the single images on the single chart?

All For You, Sophia

"Although the assassination did occur on June 28, 1914, the band is mistaken by referring to the 'Black Hand', as they were not directly involved in the plot. Gavrilo Princip was a member of Mlada Bosna (Young Bosnia), an organization which included Serbs, Muslims, and Croats and fought for self-determination. Black Hand supplied the weapons used." Anyone else agree that "the Black Hand holds the gun" could be interpretted to agree with historical fact? -Theaterfreak64 00:10, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Outsiders

If you know their song outsiders can anyone please tell me what they say at the end of the song it sounds like "go to sleep" or "fall asleep". I've been trying to find out since I got the albumn. It's the last song on the second albumn. Also did anyone see them perform it live on Later With Jools Holland. It was AWESOME!!! adding about six drummers was a stroke of genius. Well done lads it rocked!!!

The final words are "fall asleep." Try listening to it with headphones, it will be much easier to make it out.

Thank you very much!!!!!

Not Indie?

In the description the band are not described as belonging to the indie rock genre, but they are widely identified as one of the founders of the current indie scene. Another user has commented "Why is this band considered indie rock? All but (i think) a 15 minute ep was released on Sony." This is incorrect, the label that the band is signed to is Domino which is considered as one of the main indie labels in the UK. It is worth noting that Arctic Monkeys who are also signed to Domino are described as indie. If no-one raises any objections I will change it. 195.195.166.41 19:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Here in America they're distributed on a major label, which is probably the source of the confusion. But they are most certainly, both in scene and genre terms, an indie rock band. WesleyDodds 06:40, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

That makes sense. Following up, do you think there is any point describing them as alternative rock? Indie is after all a subgenre of alternative, and Franz don't really have very much in common with other bands described simply as alternative. 195.195.166.41 19:42, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

My personal philosophy is that alternative rock should only be included with a band if they cannot be adequately described by the more specific alternative subgenre tags. Since Indie rock and post-punk revival are pretty much straight on, we don't need it. WesleyDodds 22:22, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree, I'm going to change it. Any objections? 195.195.166.41 19:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
