editThis article needs independent sources. Everything here today matches what I have read previously, but the only source to date is a tribute site.
Dutton was in two wars, won two medals, and was a POW. I assume that was enough to make him of interest to the Military Work Group (although it would not have justified a separate article on its own). If not, feel free to edit the template.--Hjal 07:19, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I am Gaylord Nelson's biographer, and have done considerable research on Earth Day, which Nelson founded in 1970. I have removed the reference to Dutton being credited as the person who first proposed Earth Day, in a memo to President Kennedy, because it is undocumented. I have never heard such a claim previously, except on Dutton's tribute site. I will explore further to see if I can find such a memo. -- Bill Christofferson, 4/18/08.
