Category: FreeSpace mods

edit

Currently only Beyond the Red Line and Shadows of Lylat have Wiki articles. If more mods with substance can set up their articles, should we create a "FreeSpace mods" category for them, or just lump them all within the "Descent: FreeSpace" category (which I feel should be renamed to "FreeSpace series")? Fair use rationale for Image:Htlasteroids.jpg

edit

Image:Htlasteroids.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

External link: FSO Installer

edit

I have added an external link to the FSO Installer project. If anyone believes that this link does not belong here please discuss. ~ Ameliorate U T @ 03:29, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removed the link as the Installer is known to cause support issues. Using it is no longer recommended. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.196.222.227 (talk) 14:14, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Detail boxing?

edit

The term "detail boxing" doesn't mean anything to me, and there is nothing about this elsewhere on Wikipedia. A Google search turns up many results involving people hitting each other with big, brightly-coloured gloves, but I do not see how this would help to allow "real-time rendering of models in the several-hundred-thousand-polygon range" as the article claims. Could anyone who knows the engine perhaps replace this with a correct and existing term, or, if the algorithm was created specifically for this project, provide details? ThomasTenCate (talk) 20:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Detail boxing" is a term that means models shown in game with very high detail are not displayed in full detail to avoid causing frames per second issues. Instead there are sections of the ship or model that are displayed at certain detail levels based on how close the player is to seeing that object. This is done by having the model split up into sections (detail boxes) that are displayed at certain times. Redstreblo (talk) 09:41, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just added this article to the linux games category, as the wonderful improvements made by the scp team means it now runs natively in linux. 92.23.172.233 (talk) 22:16, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Silent Threat: Reborn

edit

In the notable projects section, the project "Silent Threat: Reborn" should be mentioned. It is a community made re-make of the Silent Threat expansion. It adds 10 new missions to the campaign, revamps old ones and is fully voice acted. When it was released the community made posts on Hard Light Productions website praising it. I think this project is worthy of mention (I am the brother of Galemp - a major writer and creater of the project).Redstreblo (talk) 09:51, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The third screenshot is not the retail model of the Hatshepsut as mentioned below screenshot four. While looking through the history of this page I noticed that much information which outlined the advancedments in comparison to the retail engine was removed by Eik Corell (talk). This included much of the original detailed captions of the screenshots. The last screenshot was even let uncaptioned. It was recaptioned with wrong information by another user. The gallery should be corrected and updated to reflect the current version of the mod. For example this FreeSpace WIKI page could be used as source. I corrected the caption. Germanicianus (talk) 22:32, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
