Yes. How can that be the possible FreeView logo, without any source specified? Not to mention, FreeView is only a temporary name, they plan to call it something else closer to launch. Danj205 20:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Quality
editThis section doesn't seem to be right. TVNZ are still broadcasting in SDTV, but TVWorks (TV3 & C4) are now broadcasting in 16x9 widescreen. And 576 is a standard format and not widescreen. Doublearon1 20:28, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- 576i is the vertical resolution. It doesn't matter whether a channel proadcasts in 4:3 or 16:9, it's still 576i. Laydan Mortensen 03:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Future Content
editUnder this section there is a statement that the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) "believes" that MediaWorks will screen imported programmes. Obviously the person that wrote this doesn't live in New Zealand, the BSA is only there to field complaints from viewers/listeners, not make comments on the industry.Trumpy (talk) 11:19, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Radio NZ will not necessarily replace TVNZ7. THIS IS NOT BEEN FINALISED SO SHOULD NOT BE POSTED!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.96.83.113 (talk) 00:43, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Terrestial Transmitters
editThe second sub section under this main heading could well be given a title and it would be intersting if it had a couple of extra columns headed 'potential audience' and 'cost estimate' so as to attempt a degree of cost/benefit analysis to any debate about the delays in widening the terrestial network. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdul48 (talk • contribs) 11:05, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
External link
editMainuni (talk · contribs) has added this external link, an online shop to buy Freeview boxes et cetera. I have removed it again, as I do not believe it adds to any informative purpose. Adabow (talk) 02:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Rating
editI've given this article a B rating. Is this a fair rating? Either way its definitely not a stub so it needed changing O for Awesome (talk) 02:47, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Frequencies
editWould it be ok to add the frequencies to the page I'm not sure if it is a little in depth or off something. Sorry new to editing. Here is the page that has the frequiencies listed [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Niallm90 (talk • contribs) 22:08, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
TV9
editIn Wellington terrestrial broadcast looks as if it was originating in 4:3 format but was being stretched to 16:9, resulting in certain amount in distortion (vehicle wheels ellipsoidal, human figures overweight except for some models anorexia sufferers that finally look close to average). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.93.45.8 (talk) 09:33, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Major Restructuring of page by Lcmortensen
editMHEG-5 non-broadcast streaming
edit"Any RTMP and adaptive bitrate streaming channels are from 200 to 299 and would have included the Quickflix (sometime in 2013)." MHEG-5 does NOT support RTMP nor any adaptive bitrate streaming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dankunwizard (talk • contribs) 00:49, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Most name branded internet connected devices support RTMP, MHEG-5 apps just simply pass a URL to the device's built-in cut-down browser which load a cut-down Flash plugin for loading the videos. Samsung store apps for TVNZ and TV3 on-demand are implemented in a similar way, except with native code and not MHEG-5.helmboy 10:47, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- See page 52 of http://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_es/202100_202199/202184/02.02.01_60/es_202184v020201p.pdf MHEG-5 is an open standard. MHEG-IC supports MPEG-TS only, not proprietary protocols such as RTMP. MHEG-5 aka D-Book 6.2 adopted by Freeview NZ requires videos to be encoded according to TS 101 154 specification. If videos are encoded with RTMP format then MHEG5 engine will simply stop playback due to buffer overflow or underflow. The encryption algorithm adopted by MHEG-5 is not supported by any other internet streaming protocol (AES CBC mode with termination mode described in ANSI/SCTE 52 2003). Samsung Smart TV apps of TVNZ and Mediaworks have DRM features implemented (PlayReady or Widevine) but MHEG-IC does not support any DRM technology. The studios did not allow development of TVNZ/Mediaworks on-demand apps for this reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dankunwizard (talk • contribs) 11:33, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Why don't you read what I wrote!!! The MHEG-5 app is just a simple hack that passes a URL to the device's cut-down web browser which most brand name devices include with a Adobe Flash plugin. MHEG-5 like OpenTV are just a way of creating a custom UI delivered over a broadcast link. TVNZ and TV3 only use RTMP on their sites and in their apps, they do not use MS Sliverlight or Apple's HLS.
- You need to read "ETSI ES 202 184". MHEG-5 IC does NOT support RTMP or Adaptive streaming. WorldnetTV uses MPEG-TS for its live streams, not RTMP. TVNZ and Mediaworks do not have any MHEG-5 app. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dankunwizard (talk • contribs) 23:45, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- MPEG TS is used when you want to include the broadcast video within the app UI such as with the MHEG guide app. MHEG-5 does not support any streaming itself. It is just a layout engine for implementing text and graphical UI controls. WorldnetTV only streams from it's auckland servers and there are only RTMP and HLS streams. The HLS streams do used fragmented MPEG TS. RTMP is the most supported on connected TVs and set-top boxes by way of the WebKit browser most use. TVNZ and TV3 use coded apps that have RTMP built-in. helmboy 00:48, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- MHEG-5 contains various standards, not only UI/UX. More substantially it does not support RTMP. See the ETSI document referenced above. Further, wireshark capture shows that WorldnetTV MHEG-5 IC app uses UNSEGMENTED MPEG-TS stream. TVNZ and Mediaworks running Wowza servers from Auckland only but according to Wowza, MHEG-5/D-Book isn't supported.Dankunwizard (talk) 01:02, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- In regards to ETSI ES 202 184, the section that states MPEG TS is for non-linear clips that can be added to the DSM CC stream or loaded through an URL trigger, NOT linear live broadcast. Your device must be pulling down the HLS streams. Other connected TVs would pull down the RTMP streams. And looking at the MHEG-5 app contents it is just a hacked together stub for loading the device's web browser. As for TVNZ they stream through brightcove akamai RTMP servers and TV3 stream through their own Adobe flash server. Where you got the Wowza idea from is beyond me!!!!! helmboy 05:01, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
