I'll get to this shortly.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:37, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
- At the time, France was concerned with the growing naval threat of the Italian and German fleets
, andthe new cruisers were intended to serve with the main fleet, and overseas in the French colonial empire. You use this sentence a lot in these articles and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to change the struck though words with a semi-colon?- It is kind of a long sentence. Might be worth splitting it entirely.
- Maybe. It flows better with the semi-colon, IMO, but there's a bit of a disconnect between them if you think about it. The reader probably doesn't know about the German and Italian colonies and how they could pose a threat to French ones. Ping me whenever you've decided on a good rewording.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 12:03, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

- Fixed
- Gun shields?
- As with the other one, I don't have details on them
- Comma after California
- Good catch
- Any idea why these types of ships were sold after only a dozen years or so of service?
- The French apparently decided they'd rather have armored cruisers in Indochina and little else everywhere else, and most of these cruisers weren't fast enough to be used as scouts for the fleet. Thanks Sturm. Parsecboy (talk) 15:52, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- I'm wondering if the French decided that the deployment of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau to China made these sorts of ships too vulnerable for use overseas. Too bad Ropp ends where he does.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 12:03, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- I'd assume no - they made the decision to stop building protected cruisers in the late 1890s, before even Furst Bismarck was completed, let alone the other German ACs. I did see a few mentions of how badly worn out some of these cruisers were after their deployments to Asia/the Pacific. Parsecboy (talk) 20:43, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
